wow wayne h ?Do you want to kill our sport altogether? If we put freestyle up to the front and take the spotlight off our collegiate h.s style, and that is what our country is pushing for public support etc.. then were in deep s8it.freestyle ,greco soooooo boring..The rerst of the world loves soccer,,so we should take our football that we play ,put it to the back of our efforts and push for regular soccer to be our main sport..?":? notttttttttt

Thanks and good info Cliff....I've been a frustrated wrestling junkie for twenty five years, and the fundamental problem with our sport is no big-picture-leadership. More than forty percent of D1 programs have been dropped since 1978 due to Title IX and there is a virtual media blackout of college and Freestyle wrestling in much of the country (I'm in Atlanta) until the semi-finals of NCAA's. Our sport is where college basketball was pre-March Madness, where the NFL was in '69 when it was G.Bay vs the Colts every year for the championship and there were about twelve pro football teams in the entire country. Until the wrestling community finds some bright, highly motivated people to play political hardball on Title IX, and start marketing the sport all season, nationwide, like the other 'major sports', very little will change. I must say though, that Flowrestling is one of the few bright spots where at least wrestling fans get a chance to see average-to-low quality video of a variety of matches.

Title IX isn't the problem. The problem is privileged men thinking they have gotten the shaft due to changes in the system that has brought about equity as opposed to a further perpetuation in masculine hegemony.

In regards to a national spotlight on collegiate wrestling goes there is a plethora of coverage via the likes of ESPN and the Big Ten Network, granted there is a dearth in quality commentary. We won't see a huge focus on international wrestling until we can produce dominant freestyle and greco wrestlers like Russia and the other former Soviet satellite states. That will not happen if we continue to have our male youth focus on the our country's folkstyle as opposed to what everyone else in the world tends to focus on more (i.e. Olympic styles).
Thankfully our women wrestlers know that freestyle is the way to go and hopefully if they ever do have women wrestle in college they will focus on freestyle or the U.S. women will continue to be dominated by the Japanese women like they have in the past two Olympic games.

While http://www.livesportsvideo.com did offer a free live video stream of the finals for this years Nationals, it is upsetting that the site does not offer any replay. I wouldn't be shocked if USA Wrestling restricts video coverage of their events in an effort to limit the amount of scouting footage that international opponents have of U.S. wrestlers.

It is interesting that JoeFlo is allowed to film Russian events and that might be due to the Russian's confidence that their wrestlers are superior to what the U.S. has to throw against them and I would have to say from the U.S.'s less than stellar performance in Beijing last summer the Russians should be more worried about wrestlers from the former Soviet satellite states (i.e. Kazakhstan, Georgia, Belarus, etc.) using the footage to their advantage than the Yanks.
In regards to Flo not being able to cover NCAA events like the Midlands, Big Ten matchups, the NCAA finals and even this year's High School Senior National Finals, well that is just simply about $. Big media companies like ESPN and the Big Ten Network are willing to fork over some bread to these athletic associations to broadcast big events on their stations and online networks. The bugger of it is we have to deal with biased uniformed douche cookies like ESPN's Quint Kessnick and the Big Ten Network's utterly mundane Ken Chertow while having to deal with crappy commercials and the possibility of not being able to view all the matches (http://www.ESPN360.com does not have all the finals matches from the High School Senior Nationals from a few weeks ago and if your internet provider isn't an ESPN360.com affiliate you are SOL......WTF!).

To my understanding Flo isn't allowed to film so I doubt it. I was talking with JoeFlo the other day and he made a funny point. That he was more free to film over at the Russian nationals than USA Wrestling lets him film here a lot of times. That is kinda scary.

My guess is you'll see very little if any video coverage of this event by USA Wreslting. Theyg will release a couple lame press releases about things with no good mulit media coverage of any kind about it.

Is it just me or does the U.S. open seem week is certain weights this year, and lacks overall depth? 121 and 185 especially
It isn't uncommon to see top athletes take some time off from competing during the first year after an Olympic games. This might be due to lagging injuries, age, or financial difficulties due to Olympic style wrestlers not accruing much financial assistance from USA Wrestling and the OTC. Don't count out the no shows from not competing for a spot on the 2012 US team for the games in the UK.

Any chance Metcalf wrestles Caldwell this weekend? If so, any predictions? I personally think Caldwell will win because the freestyle format favors more explosive but less conditioned athletes whereas collegiate favors marathon type wrestlers. Just my opinion. Caldwell would only need to explode for 4 minutes, claim the first 2 periods, and then be carried off the mat in a stretcher for the victory.

LSV from what I have heard is only providing the host site, everything else the video and the "commentary" is being done by USA Wrestling so be mad that USA Wrestling not LSV. they are doing us a favor!
