The following was posted by Knowtiall:

California kids will struggle here. This is a whole new ballgame and different level than CA.
On the contrary, you are incorrect. Kids that compete at the California State Championships are more than aware of this level of competition. With only one division and over 800 high schools, placing at the CA state championships is a meat grinder. In addition, our top kids have proven their worth at the NHSCA Nationals. Moreover, our top kids that have competed at the Walsh Ironman have done very well; Billy Murphy, Jason Welch, and Navachkov brothers to name a few.
The group of California kids attending this year are a good group. I expect Brandon Rocha (Lemoore), Nick Sierra (Lemoore), Kyle West, Vlad Dombroski, Ian Dabue (Poway), Henry Yorba (Poway), and Ian Roy (Poway) to have the best shots at earning a medal. The remainder of Cal entrants will do well and may surprise.
On a final note, kids from California do not shy away from the nation's top level tournaments. That is why they fly across the country to your backyard and put it on the line. There is no doubt that the Ironman is a different level, but not a level that our kids have faced or willing to put it on the line. The talking will be done on the mat.
I wish all the Cal kids the best.

No the Beast is at the University of Delaware in about 3 weeks. The Nationals are in March or April after the year is over.

And The Beast is DEFINITELY top 3 but Reno? I wouldn't put that ahead of Iroman or Fargo. That's at best 4.
"The 2006-07 campaign produce some truly amazing performances by the Blue Eagles. Besides winning their own Nazareth Invitational with eight individual champions, they finished as runners up in the Beast of the East Tournament which is considered by many as the toughest high school tournament in the country. A little over a week later, Nazareth once again finished second to Blair Academy but this time at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic. Mid-January found the Blue & White winning the Virginia Duals with a thrilling 32-31 victory over nationally ranked Christiansburg, VA in the final match."

It's not about numbers , it's about quality. Noone has higher quality than PA or Ohio or NJ and even Illinois is in my opinion above california!

California has good individuals as they should being the most heavily populated state in the country, but team wise they aren't very strong, and haven't produced much at all as far as competitive teams that can compete with the top teams from PA, OH, NJ, IA, IL, & MN.

California is definitely in the mix with NJ, PA, and Ohio. May not be the top state, but in the mix...We've proven our worth at the nationals. If I were to rank the top four, it would be the following:

1. PA
2. Ohio
3. New Jersey
4. California
No state has the same depth at the state meet as California. With over 800 high schools and one division, the round to get into the medal round is tougher than many state finals.
Several of the California kids were seeded low, but I am confident that they will place much higher than their seeds. Overall, the Ironman is NAILS...It is by far the toughest in the land.
