Message #71 - A Technique You Can Use Right Now to Relive Stress and Relax

Lee Kemp | Profile
May 30, 2008

Release the Natural Tranquilizers in Your Body. Most things in life you make yourself do. You go to school, work, practice, take a shower...what ever. It's a never ending process of make, make, make, make, make. Try to make yourself fall asleep; you can't make yourself fall asleep...you just fall asleep. Try to make yourself breathe... If you had to make yourself breathe, inhale, exhale, then you wouldn't have a chance to do anything else. So the whole thing is it's a letting process, you just let it happen. You don't make it happen. In order to make yourself relax,… more »

Russian Journey

I am lying here in bed anxious for what I might do today. Yesterday was a very long day of traveling, I could not sleep on any of the planes and by the time I got to Russia, I could hardly hold my head up. Exiting the plane I knew that I was not going to waste my day asleep so I convinced myself that I was wide awake. Not knowing who I was meeting at the airport made me a little nervous.

My guide for the trip will be Maksim Monolov, but I will not meet… more »

Message #70 - The Single Biggest Mistake That Keeps Most People From Getting Motivated

Lee Kemp | Profile
May 27, 2008

The Point Here Is Where Does Motivation Come From... and How Do We Get Motivated?

We get motivated by the desire to do SOMETHING...ANYTHING!

The desire to do something can also be the desire to achieve SOMETHING. This can also be called a GOAL!

The smaller the goal...the smaller the motivation....THE BIGGER THE GOAL...THE BIGGER THE MOTIVATION....think about this for a moment...

Also when you’re motivated, you automatically become excited. BIGGER THE MOTIVATION...THE BIGGER THE EXCITEMENT.

BIGGER THE EXCITEMENT...THE BIGGER THE PASSION.

Message #69 - The One Thing That is Much More Important Than Winning

Lee Kemp | Profile
May 26, 2008

Winning is However you Define Success, or More Importantly...Attainment of You Goals and Dreams. But First What Could Be More Important Than Winning?

Winning is the end result of a lot of things.

The most important FIRST step to any GREAT success in anything is the WILLINGNESS TO DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES to get what you want...

AND the willingness do do it NO MATTER WHAT! This is what separates the GOOD from the GREAT!

All truly successful people (I mean those people that have achieved… more »

Plan to save college wrestling

Ben Askren | Profile
May 22, 2008

There has been a lot of talk on how to save college wrestling, here is my overall synopsis on the situation. Of course it will take a lot my than talk to get the job done, but to get somewhere we have to know where we want to go first. Here is a clear and distinct list of things needed to do to complete this process.

1. Start a national wrestling endowment
2. Keep fighting the title IX battle
3. Build college wrestling at lowers levels (specifically NAIA and NWCA)
4. Keep women’s wrestling… more »

Food for thought

Why are we rushing to raise money for an athletic department who just cut wrestling? Asu was never upfront to the wrestling community about the programs situation. How academic of them. Furthermore what about the duty to provide oppurtunity to all the highschool kids that wrestle in that state. As an academic institution they should reevaluate their role to the Arizona community. So why are we trying to raise money for this type of leadership? Think about the example we are giving to ADs all across the country:.....the message is: if you drop wrestling we will come and raise money… more »

Arizona State is Dropping wrestling, and why we need to drop Mike Moyer

Im not surprised by the events at ASU. Disappointed beyond consolation? yes, but surprised?...no. You reap what you sow. The wrestling leadership, the NWCA (not to be confused with the NCWA) has lead wrestling down a path where this will happen time and time again. So Dont be surprised by Arizona State dropping their wrestling program and dont be surprised if it happens again this year to another program. Im an optimist but Im also a realist.

Wrestling is the greatest and most exciting sport in the world. I have no doubt about this. I have no… more »

Dealing with Post Traumatic Wrestling Disorder

Martin Floreani | Profile

Its funny how tough it is to deal with wrestling after your career is over. There almost always is some level of disappointment with your performances. If you are extremely competitive there is really very little peace until you can address Post Traumatic Wrestling Disorder (PTWD) . Wrestling is unique because there is no genetic bias in the sport. Leaving one variable....your mental state.

Your mental state, which is built brick by brick* over a course of years sets the tone for everything you do. Do you clam up when you step on the mat? Are… more »

Message #68 - Positive Thinking Isn't Enough!

POSITIVE BELIEVING is what we NEED to get the job done.... There's a Huge Difference Between Positive Thinking and Positive BELIEVING!

Was Muhammad Ali a positive thinker or a positive BELIEVER? Like him or not the guy was mentally "ROCK SOLID". Listen to Ali Click Here and ask yourself is this man a positive thinker or positive believer.

You know how Muhammad Ali didn’t go around saying I think I’m the greatest, I think I’m the greatest. He used to say – I’m the greatest period.

let’s just talk about for… more »

Several weeks ago the management at flowrestling decided to "de-list" my blog. That means that I am no longer listed on the "Blogs" drop down menu. The reason given was that they didn't feel they could support all of the wrestling causes that I do.

Until now my flowrestlr friends were still able to view the blogs by coming to my profile page. I will not be posting the blogs here any longer.

If you still wish to read them. I will continue to post them every Monday morning on blogger.com

Growing the Underground Cult

This week in Fresno and the central valley was awesome. Its like a little New Jersey without the accents and pizanos but with agriculture and mexicans. Wrestling is intense there. They have about half of the top ten teams in California in that Valley. Remember there are over 27,000 wrestlers with 800 teams in one division in California. The next highest state is Illinois which has just over 17k participants and is moving to 3 divisions next year.

Stan Greene a former wrestler from Fresno State was my sponsor, he let me and Joe crash at his… more »

Message #67 - A __ __ A __ I ___

If you were pretending to be what ever it is you're aspiring to be, HOW WOULD YOU ACT?

That's my question for YOU.

In my case as a young wrestler back in the 70's I had the good fortune and opportunity to be in the presence of Dan Gable - arguably the one single person that's had the greatest impact on wrestling in this country.

Gable's impact reached deep to all of us young wrestling "wanna bees". I was 15 years old when I went to a wrestling camp Gable was… more »

Well I haven't posted since my trip to Russia so you guys have probably been wondering what I have been up to. Well besides a trip to the NCAA tournament in St. Louis, which in my opinion is the great wrestling tournament in the world and if you haven't gone you need to, I have been leading a very boring and monotonous life. I wake up, work out, make myself some lunch then usually work out again. Wrestling is the one sole focus in my life. Last June after a very poor performance at the WTT I had decisions to… more »
