At age 50 and with a lifetime spent marketing and selling mostly in the corporate world of the automotive aftermarket I have been to way to many seminars on sales, marketing, leadership, customer service, business etc etc I would guess I attended between 200 to 250 plus seminars and it might be even more if I didn’t kill so many brain cells in college (what do you expect? I went to college in the 70’s). So when the Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce offered a networking/leadership seminar combo deal I thought that was the last thing I needed to do.… more »

Coach Ron

Coach Ron

I did not pick the sport of wrestling… I like to say wrestling picked me. If I wasn’t waiting for the bus that December day 33 years ago watching wrestling practice I would not have been pulled on the mat by my good friend Jimmy Ferrante. I was strong for a little guy and remembered some moves from gym class so I surprised Jimmy and Head Wrestling Coach Ron Matakitis. Before I knew it I was in Coach’s office, getting practice gear, Tiger shoes, and white plastic headgear. I had become a member of Delbarton… more »

Culture

December 18, 2007

I have had the opportunity to see wrestling from a few different points of view. All of these places have brought me to view our sport from a little different angle.
Technique, strength, desire and training all play a vital role in wrestling. To be the best you have to pay special attention to these areas. We have all been taught that "wrestling is 90% mental", it is easy to realize this if you have taken the mat in competition even once. But I think that some of us or myself at the very least, have over looked a… more »

We just completed our December camp and I think it was the best one yet. We had 60 kids from nine different states and 40 of them were national champs or place winners. The talent was unreal, I'm bruised up pretty good but it was worth it! more »

Wrestling's Fight

Alex Clemsen | Profile
December 12, 2007

So my first blog may not have gone as well as I had hoped. My intensions were only to vent a little and inform as many as I could about the University Oregon's decision to drop wrestling.

However, it seems that i may have offended a few readers, enough for them to respond strongly. I respect everyone's opinion who weighed in on my post, its their right. I may have attacked the situation from a different angle, one that some do not like. Just know that I am only here for the promotion of wrestling. With… more »

My Blog

I am new to the whole blogging thing. I think it's like a journal or something, but I am not sure.

I am not sure how to start, so I think I will start off with a few words about myself. My name is Chadd (yes! 2 d's). I am 22 years old, and I am an assistant wrestling coach at St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas.

I grew up in Toledo, OH, and have been wrestling since I was 12. I recently graduated from Syracuse University, and found a job… more »

Meeting Martin

December 10, 2007

This past week I was at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman Tournament. It was a great tournament even though I only had a chance to attend the finals. I came there with one of my friends and to root on my teamates at St.Edward High School. I was getting some food in the cafe when i spotted Martin Floreani. As soon as I saw him Iwent right to him ands introduced myself (by the way I recommended coming to the Ironman to Martin). We talked a little bit and then I let him get back to waht he was doing because… more »

My First Civil War

Alex Clemsen | Profile
December 8, 2007

I just got back home to Corvallis, Oregon from my first ever Civil War Dual Meet. The match took place in the nostalgic McArthur Court, on the campus of the University Oregon. Oregon State, the team I coach for, won the dual 23-14.

However, this dual was bitter sweet. I have heard about the Oregon State - Oregon rivalry since I first began discussing the possible coaching position with Jim Zalesky. Everyone told me how intense the rivalry was and how deep the loyalties ran. So many spoke of how hard the athletes compete, and how… more »

Tournament in Tennessee

December 6, 2007

Ok, so Friday we leave at 10:30 am to head toward the tournament in Tennessee.

I am excited about going, but it is going to be a long bus ride. I don't look forward to that or the long days...But I will make it!!

The cheerleaders may not cheer, depending on how many of us go.

Good luck to all the wrestlers!! May you wrestle your best and no one get injured.

We will miss those taking the ACT!
Have a blessed day!

Jim King Tournament.

Nathan Clift | Profile
December 4, 2007

The Redwolves went to the Jim King Tournament last friday and saturday. 10 of our wrestlers went 0-2 and were knocked out of the tournament after the first round. While on the surface it might seem that we have reached rock bottom as a squad, no one quit. We are a very young team and it might take a couple of years of intense, determined, and dedicated work on the mat and in the weight room before we are wrestling at a high level.

Congrats to Joey Berry and Alek Walker for getting a pin.
