when you are in a sport like wrestling, it is inevitable that one day, if not multiple times during your career, you will take a step back and ask yourself, "why in the hell am i doing this?" i've been asking myself that question a lot lately. sometimes it seems so absurd to be putting myself through all this pain and stress for six minutes of gratification. and i have to ask myself why. and then it occured to me. why do i do what i do? because i can. because that six minutes of gratification is no small accomplishment.… more »

2008-09 Season

Wrestling season is here! I have had a great time watching this young team work hard at practice and love the enthusiasm for the sport. It is a huge compliment when I see a wrestler use a technique from practice in a live match! This is my 10th season as assistant wrestling coach. Every season is different and I have a great attitude about this year because of the young talent on the team. Make sure you use this site as an educational tool! You can be as good as you want! I look forward to putting new technique videos,… more »

One Week of season practice under our Belts

Keith Hotvedt | Profile
November 22, 2008

Just like in a family, as the team gets more confident, the expectations begin to rise. As weight classes fill, elbow room becomes scarce and a little friction turns into drama. Oh how I missed this formula. My older boys Team made the Trip, "Team States"in his junior year . Values and morals that are taught to us as bean sprouts are tested in the fire of sibling rivalry become awaken in these journeys. It is so rare to really forge bonds and set goals and verify accomplishments in a Team atmosphere anymore. I will never forget the Hadad's, the… more »

Hi guys, My name is Jayson. Age 9, I started wrestling 2 yrs ago for my local township league. I'm now in my third year and am going to wrestle as a 75lb. Midget. I took third in my league last year and am ranked second in NJ. as a freestyle wrestler by the USAW (very small bracket). Im not agressive by nature, nor am I loaded with confidence. I try to be a good wrestler mostly because my Dad want me to do well and I want to make him proud. He was pushing a bit to hard but… more »

Brandon Munoz... wrestling

I can’t explain how it felt to sit down in a small, whitewashed hospital room and have a balding, peppermint-scented doctor stare me in the face and tell me that I might never be able to wrestle again. Wrestling has been at the center of most of my life in high school. But that was before last summer, when I learned that I had needed to get not one, but two, surgeries: one on each shoulder. The operations were tough, but the worst parts were still to come. During the summer I had planned to attend one of the toughest… more »

Season has Arrived

Todd Austin | Profile
November 19, 2008

Another wrestling season is upon us. The first week is always strange for us, because a lot of our wrestlers play football. That is strange because football ended the day before wrestling started. Therefore the football players are not with us untill next week. The football team picked up its 4th straight championship this year. Any way we got underway this week and did our weight certifications. No suprises yet, but still need to cert. the football guys. For those of you that don't know our wrestling team here at Plymouth won the D2 championship last year. Hopefully with some… more »

November 17, 2008 - UFC Match Catone vs. Sadollah to be Rescheduled

Bill Scott | Profile
November 18, 2008

BJJSA student Nick Catone was set and ready to take on Amir Sadollah this past weekend in UFC 91. Unfortunately opponent Amir Sadollah had to pull out of the fight due to a serious leg infection and was not cleared to fight. Both fighters trained extremely hard to prepare themselves for the challenge as most fighters do and no one is more dissappointed then they are when this happens. The good news is that this fight is rescheduled to a later date so everyone will still get to see Nick Catone make his debut in the UFC against Amir Sadollah… more »

We now have everyone in the room. The guys are working very hard and we are training for the beginning of our competition season. We will begin certifying everyone this week and start getting the guys to weights they plan to be at, so that we can start seeing what the lineup will look like. There should be some very competitive wrestle-offs here in the next few weeks. Stay tuned, should be an exciting season. more »

Season is one week away

Todd Austin | Profile
November 10, 2008

Wrestling season starts one week from today. The football team won in the semifinals, so they are on to the state championship. Coach Cleary and I are ready to start another year of wrestling, once we get everybody certified and down to weight we should have a decent line up. One returning dII champion and a few place winners. We lost some good seniors from last years team, two that went to the New England tournament, and one that placed at the meet of champions, but we feel good about the younger kids that are stepping in to take there… more »

Week 1

November 9, 2008

We started practice with 15 wrestlers who were not involved in a fall sport. This week gave us an opportunity to work on basics while most of our returners were not out yet. We finished the week with a pretty tough practice on Friday. It gave this group an idea of what to expect, even though it wasn't close to our toughest practice. The football team lost in the first round of the playoffs on Wed., soccer lost on Tues. and CC finished on Sat. We will have everyone in the room on Wed. IT will be time to get… more »

Ohio Storm Update

Ohio Storm Brush Wrestling | Profile
November 9, 2008

Brian Hauser wraps up what is perhaps the most outstanding off season wrestling effort by a wrestler in Brush history. Brain wrestled in over 80 matches (losing on 3 times), dating back from the first spring tournament in March of 2008 to the last preseason tournament this fall, in which he capped off a great off season by winning a State title at the preseason State Championships at the Marion Coliseum in Marion, Ohio. This past spring and summer Brian wrestled in three national dual meet tournaments Ohio Duals, Disney Duals, and Air Dome Duals in PA. This fall Brian… more »

Rumor has it that one of our Junior High Medalists, turned his grades around and will wrestle this year. What does a coach feel when a prodigal returns to the fold. Has your heart ever known heaven? Have your wrestlers ever really tasted victory? Are the lessons of today fully preparing them for tomorrow? Just asking the correct question in a time of need, will turn a dark gray cloud into your silver lining. Once you have your attitude right, work can progress in a more conducive manner no matter the goal. My Dad used to liken life as one… more »

The Clam Before the Storm

Daryl Weber | Profile
November 8, 2008

In my competitive career I know I lost some matches due to nerves. Everyone has their own place they need to be before a match in order to perform at there best. Finding that place can be difficult. I have found that when preparing for big matches less can be more. This can be especially true in duals where you have a tough opponent or in the semi-finals or finals of a tournament. I have seen many wrestlers tire themselves out, emotionally and physically, before big matches with too much preparation. If you have wrestled for many years there is… more »
