I have learned so much about the japanese and the way they wrestle, I even learned a couple japanese words =). I made a lot of new friends all though it was hard to communicate. I had to communicate useing my hands sometimes it was hard but worth it. On the first day we… more »

III. TECHNICAL TRAINING

Learn and Drill. Learn by becoming a student of the sport. Listen from your coaches, go to wrestling camp over the summer, review video’s on specific techniques you want to master, and drill until your moves become second nature, until they become instinctive !!! (30 to 40minutes of drilling a day) When you don’t have a partner to drill with try shadow drilling: Shadow Drilling is a great way to develop your skills, speed and conditioning. I was a boxing fan during elementary school, watching legends Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali on television. I learned that shadow boxing plays… more »

II. STRENGTH TRAINING

Strength Training Principles:Overload: To see gains in strength you must always stimulate the muscle more than it is accustomed to. TRAIN …..OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE!Progression: The active muscle must continue to work against a gradually increasing resistance in order to meet overload.Specificity: Gains you receive are dependent on the muscle group used, and movement pattern performed.Strength (maximal force): If you are interested in strength gains you want to train with higher weights and closer to your 1 RM.Endurance (sub maximal force that is repeated): If you are interested in gains in endurance, you should concentrate on lifting lower weights… more »

~~~Confident~~~
>Confident: You’ve worked hard, now represent your training. Allow your ability (based on all the hard work & training you’ve put in). Confidence comes from having the Courage to submit yourself to an extremely demanding challenge, a challenge which most ordinary students will avoid. Confidence is the fruit of experience. The more you put yourself in challenging situations and endure through them, the more confidence you will develop. ( A very tough tournament, a very tough training situation – camp, off season participation in open mats, wrestling with a very tough wrestler, Competing in styles that stretch you – such… more »
~Achieving goals ~
Achieving goals requires: 1. Commitment to persevere: When one understands what commitment is all about, quitting is NEVER an option. 2. Discipline: Whatever it takes. Make a decision to do the activities that don’t feel good, that don’t come natural, and quite frankly you don’t feel like doing them However you do them anyway ,( I call this training out of your comfort zone ), and after much training you will begin to experience the benefits and rewards for your hard work. B.) Mental toughness – for competition (ICS & FRC): By definition, toughness is to be strong & resilient;… more »
MENTAL TOUHNESS TRAINING
I. MENTAL TOUHNESS TRAINING A.) Goal Setting the first step to mental toughness: by Ken Chertow, 1988 Olympian: I encouraged you to set some challenging, ambitious long-term goals for yourself. If you only set easily obtainable goals, you will never reach your highest levels of achievement. Do not be scared to strive to live your dreams. To increase the likelihood that you will achieve your highest goals, you must set a variety of smaller goals. Setting numerous short-term goals will provide you with continuous challenges. These challenges will increase your level of motivation and enhance your performance. It does not… more »
2008 Fargo Nationals
I just returned from the Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo ND. Once again this tournament proved to be incredibly tough. Christiansburg High School had an All-American for the fifth straight year and 7 out of the past 8 years. Devin Carter All Americaned for the second year in a row. This tournament is tough in many ways. The competiton is tough, the training camp is tough, the time commitment is tough, the training to prepare for the tounemant is tough, the travel is tough, and making weight four days is tough. All these reasons are why the wrestliers that… more »
Certain Mentalities are keeping some good kids from wrestling in College
Stephen Stonebraker | Profile
"If you want to wrestle Division I, then you need to either win at least one state title or place in the State tournament at least three times" I've heard that exact line, and other quotes very similar to it for the past 15 years now. I've seen a lot of kids who were good wrestlers in high school, that didn't meet those expectations, and as a result believe they weren't good enough to wrestle on the collegiate level. I find this very sad. Kid's from the tougher wrestling states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois and… more »
The team concludes the organize portion of off season wrestling training schedule with a solid performance at the Air Dome Duals in Williamsport, PA. As a team we finished with a 12th place finish among 32 teams and a 3-4 overall record. The boys handle themselves well and the conditions were challenging (the heat in the air dome), but in the end each boy had wrestled plenty of matches and looked progressively better each bout. Highlights of the Air Dome Duals include Jevon Cook defeating a New Jersey State placer with a solid last minute takedown. Brian Hauser going undefeated,… more »
