Things To Do To Save Wrestling

Ben Askren made a great post about Saving College Wrestling. However, I'd would add a few more intangible points though too. We need to be better at helping ourselves. How?
We as a sport need to stop whining, complaining, and playing the victim in this title IX thing and losing all of our programs, even if we don't mean to be doing it. Heck, we are WRESTLERS, we should know better.

Brewer Is Getting Better!

Over the last 10, or so years Brewer Wrestling has been a joke. We usually had one good senior each year. And if we had a really good under classman something would come up and they would leave wrestling. We'll, this past year Brewer's middle school team did better than any Brewer team in the history of our program. We placed 5th at states. With 1 state champ, 3 runner-ups, and a 4th placer. The best improvement to me is the fact that we had our first state champion. Another thing is that we only took 6 people to states.… more »

It is just to easy if anyone is from maine drop me a comment if you agree, or disagree. There isn't any real competion up here. Each weight class only ever has like 1 good wrestler. Every once in awhile there will be two. We need competition!!! Will someone from PA, IA, NE, or MN come up here and freeze, just so we get some really good workout. I have been wrestling for 2 years and all I do is wrestle. I beat the crap out of our senior captian this year and he won the eastern maine regionals at… more »

Never did make weight this year. Ugh. I'll keep plugging away for '08/'09. I'm close to weight now and much stronger and in better shape than last year. Clothes are loose and I am heavier. That's OK by me :)
I did note (and I'm kinda slow on this I am sure) that ASU has lost it's wrestling program. And that Kerry McCoy bailed from Stanford for some school in Md. With the added loss of U of Oregon, I suspect this is the beginning of the end for PAC 10 wrestling and for the most part… more »

ASU DROPS WRESTLING- Are we dropping the ball?

Why is it that we always have wrestling people run wrestling organizations? I know they have a grasp of what the sports traditions, culture and norms are but it seems that the old way of approaching things has gone wildly awry. We need to seek out leadership and counsel from people who are winning this battle. We NEED some of the women’s advocates to be swayed into seeing what we all see. Am I a Dickhead Coach?
Now before you go off the deep end on the derogitory title, let me explain. I recently had a kid quit the team and when asked by another wrestler why he quit, he said "Because the coaches are dickheads." The wrestler then asked, why he thought we were dickheads and the kid said "because they want me pass classes and show up for practice." Huh? Are you kidding me? That's how a coach is considered to be a dickhead nowadays? Because we ask the students to do what they should be… more »

50 Renegade Rows @ 15#
Lunge Jumps 15-9-7 @ RM
Pilates 100's [150]
All Work Completed in 35 Minutes.
Legs and knees were fried from:
53 Minutes Rope Work Tuesday
