New to wrestling, can 265 pounds of nothing can turn to something?
January 21, 2008
Well, not exactly new to wrestling, just still fishy. I started as a freshman at the 215 wt class as a total fish. Weight at 215 and able to go down to 152 isn't something you'd call good fish, it would be chump, the stuff used for bait. I wasn't good at all, but I didn't skip practice and I battled tough wrestlers.
Sophomore year I got a few more wins against people just like me, just in a heavier weight class (285). This doesn't mean I weight 285 pounds, just 240...sometimes. I was in the… more »

LIE, LIE, LIE
January 8, 2008
I have to admit it; I never actually reached level 70. In fact I didn’t even reach level 30, I got stuck on level 24 and ended up quitting when I got a life. So I have to admit, Dustin Fox, you own me in World Of Warcraft. Heck I didn’t even know how to use my animal ranger skills until you told me. I’m considering trading my life in to get started again so beware.

Fort Payne Match
January 16, 2008
Oh my goodness!! We had to take the middle schoolers with us again!!! I hate them riding with us. There is never room on the bus!!
We finally got to Fort Payne and there was only one ref! We had to wait for Grissom and Southside to finish wrestling, then the middle school wrestled Fort Payne's middle school. After that our varsity wrestled Fort Payne's varsity. We did not get back to the school till 10:30 pm.
Wednesday at school the whole team was tired. It stinks!!

Resilience in overcoming performance errors in athletics
January 16, 2008
A common occurrence that all athletes encounter is performance errors. All athletes make mistakes; it is a natural part of learning to be competent at any activity. Since mistakes are normal, it is beneficial to help athletes accept that errors will occur in sport. A unique approach to dealing with performance errors is presented by Halden-Brown (2003). In her book, she addresses the normalcy of making mistakes in sport and how coaches can use these errors to train athletes both physically and mentally. I propose that teaching athletes about resilience will facilitate their ability to accept mistakes and use these… more »
Final 1/3 of the season
January 16, 2008
It is now getting to the time, when the cream come to the top. The kids that have been working hard are starting to rise and the ones who have cut corners are starting to slide. It is important this time of the season to not get caught up in the daily grind, but to remember what your goals are. Most of the physical training is complete now. It is a time to refine technique, look at strategy, and develope a strong mental game. more »
Back to School and the Countdown Begins
January 15, 2008
We hit the road last weekend for a long but positive trip to Oregon and picked up some great wins. Now the countdown to Nationals begins with the return of schoolwork! As much as no one wants to go back to class, it’s nice to be back in the routine of campus life and having something to do besides training 24/7. We’ve used Christmas break to elevate our conditioning limits and find new levels of fatigue. The season is a long one, but when you have an opportunity to do nothing but train, mistakes can be corrected and focus can… more »
AJ Jones Memorial Invitational Wrap-Up
January 15, 2008
Kowobys Finish 2nd at AJ Jones Memorial Invitational.
We put six in the finals and came away with four champions, along with two 3rd placers and a 4th place to finish 2nd behind Cleveland, Tennessee this past weekend. We had the same amount of finalists and placewinners, just had a few more byes and a few less bonus point matches. It was great competition though, with the Cleveland dual on Friday night and the addition of Fairview, Colorado; Jupiter Christian and several tough local teams. Our individual champions included: Pete Baldwin (125), Gabe Bird (140), Alex Eggers (145),… more »

Small note.
January 13, 2008
Well stacking wood yesterday was no fun. But at least I finished before the rain started.
I hit the bands and the bike for a couple of hours again today. Starting to feel like I know what I am doing again. Tomorrow is the first 4 AM workout. I need the time (afternoons are totally booked) and getting my body moving after I have spent all night burning off free carbohydrates is a good way to burn fat.
Work out when you wake up, eat nothing until your done with the workout (make sure… more »

Grissom Tournament
January 13, 2008
Thankfully this weekend was only a Saturday tournament.
We had to leave at 5 in the morning though. That was not fun. Later we all found out that the varsity tournament didn't start till 10 am. We had to be there at 7'30 am so the middle school team could weigh in. Let's just say we weren't happy.
Overall the boys did well. It was a duals tournament so it was easier to keep up with who won and all. There was a wrestling cheerleaders from other schools, which was fun. Personally,… more »

Yesterday...
January 12, 2008
Well I finally completed one of the "Bands/Bike" workouts. Took about 2 hours and whipped me pretty good. Weight is good, too. So far I am on track to make my goals for this month.
WAHI team inched past Ike (Yakima, WA). Some good results, some not so much. Had a good workout with the big guys yesterday and really started to see some action. I like how the team is shaping up.
We have Wenatchee this Saturday, and I have a 60' pine tree to split into firewood. Chopping wood is… more »

Mountain Brook Tournament
January 8, 2008
Well, we went to Mountain Brook and the bus ride wasn't even long! It was great!
On Friday they had a pool and every one wrestled to be seated in the tournament the next day. The Mat Angels were so excited that another school had cheerleaders for wrestling too! We were amazed at all their moves even though they weren't very loud. Friday night we spent the night at Eric Lee's aunt's house in Vestevia Hills. Lets just say the whole wrestling team and the cheerleaders sleeping in only three rooms is interesting...HAHA

Gathering Steam...
January 8, 2008
Well Sunday (yeaterday) was a mixed day. I completed about 50% of my "bands" workout (bands/bike/calisthenics). With added bike (new since last year) its taking longer and whipping me faster. That's cool. I think when I have mastered the exisiting workout I'll be in great shape to take things to the next level in my training.
Now if I could only find a training partner...
I get lots of anarobic & strengh from the bands, but I needed to add in the "go ape turds for 2 minutes" high output cardio. I'm rebuilding my… more »

Freeland is Next
January 6, 2008
We will be back in Freeland to compete against them again, were Trent will be favored to continue his undefeated winning streak. Also Markus will continue his winning streak right along with Trent only after suffering two losses this season so far. Our team will also be going against Bullock Creek, and Ovid Else en route to winning the tournoment I think, cause we already beat Freeland and Bullock Creek in the individual Freeland tournoment. Good Luck guys lets win this next one. more »
Getting Videos from Flo.
January 6, 2008
Many teamates have asked me how i got the video clips from flo to make the highlight videos. here is a "simple" breakdown of how to do it.
1. Find the clip you want.
this tends to be the hardest part, there is so much to choose from, and limited hard drive space. videos take up form 10 to 70 Mb depending on length.
2. Download the newest Real player. (v 11 i think it is)
it is important that you install the video download feature with it, because this is… more »

Chaminade-Madonna New Year's Invite Wrap Up
January 6, 2008
Coming to the end of a rough three week stretch that included two trips to South Florida and competing at the nationally-ranked Zac Jarzynka Iornman, we competed this week at the Chaminade-Madonna New Year's Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale. Although we only took nine guys, the guys who competed did a great job of picking up the slack and racking up lots of bonus points for us. We recorded 22 falls, 3 techs and two majors over the course of the weekend, as well as put five in the finals and coming away with four champs! Pete Baldwin (119), Gabe Bird… more »
My training Blog or WHY THIS MADNESS.
January 5, 2008
Well I'm a computer nerd by trade, and this is my first Blog post ever. I feel so hip. Anyway, I've wanted to blog about my training for some time, so flow seems to be as good a place as any. Someone on this site MIGHT care.
First a bit of background.
It started around my birthday in 2004. I decided I was getting old enough, that an annual physical was not a bad idea. I had self assessed myself as “in pretty good shape†physically, so I figured I had nothing to… more »

Zac Jarzynka Ironman Wrap Up
January 1, 2008
Just got back from the Zac Jarzynka Ironman at Oviedo High School, where we finished 6th as a team. The format was kind of tricky, they had to tweak it several times. We wrestled a bunch of tough guys/teams, in some cases twice. Alex Eggers (140) and Niko Brown (171) each won individual titles, with Alex also getting Outstanding Middleweight. Tim Eggers (145) finished 2nd, Gabe Bird (135) finished 4th, Levi Clemons (160) finished 6th, Pete Baldwin (119) finished 7th and Matt Jones (125) finished 8th. All-in-all, we weren't satisfied with our results, but we performed well in spots. It… more »
