Underground Strength Training for Wrestlers...the beginning
I have to laugh the way this all started....in a backyard, b/c I had no money to afford a barbell...
So, I trained the guys w/what I had...the stones in my Dad's backyard and bodyweight drills...
We also ran to nearby playgrounds and attacked the surroundings.
I didn't know any better, all I knew is that there was to be no excuses from me or from the wrestlers I trained.
Stone carries, stone pressing, stone squats, pull ups on swing sets, hill sprints, partner wheel barrow walks and jumps on park benches or onto picnic tables.
Deep down, I wasn't sure if it would all work. Then, 2 weeks later, one of the wrestlers avenged a recent loss by majoring that same opponent.
The lesson after that was two fold:
1) Whatever you do, even if it isn't the "right way", go full force and full speed ahead.
2) The basics always produce results, fancy isn't required.
Kill it!
