So it begins, with many questions to be answered with some high expectations my 8th year of coaching is off to a start. Should be a pretty solid team, the new faces will be a spark to our team I have a feeling. First work out as a full group is today, hope they all work hard and stay healthy more »

UNK LOPERS 4th place finish at Nationals. In a year with tons of adversity, disappointment and questions, the lopers take 6 men to nationals and they all bring home AA honors. A lot of leadership was lost from 2008 national championship team, but the program is still one of the best in Division II. CONGRATS Coach Bauer, Swarm, Keiswetter, Ellenberger and Sylvester. more »

WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND TO BE  A  HUSKER.  The BIG 12 championships were outstanding, it was wonderful to fill the venue and hear the roar of people cheering on the Huskers and for one match MIZZOU.  I think you can tell how much Nebraska wrestling appreciated what happened on Saturday.  An opportunity to watch a title be brought home since 1995 I think.  Hopefully the Huskers can keep it rolling.   Good Luck more »

Proud Coach

February 25, 2009

I have never been more proud of our athletes than yesterday. You can talk about winning tournaments and winning state medals and how honorable that is. What our kids did yesterday is beyond that. We had a member or our wrestling community pass away on Friday night. This member just so happened to be one of our young mans mom. The support and respect our team brought to their teammate and past wrestlers in the family was amazing. What a great support system. This is the true meaning of team. more »

The key to winning

Curtis Gocke | Profile
February 18, 2009

The key is to stay focused and not get caught up in all the hoopla surrounding the state tournament. Our mindset has to be that we are going to Omaha to win matches and bring home medals. We can't be satisfied with simply making it there. -Travis McIntosh: Travis is set to make his second trip to the state tournament where he finished with a 1-2 record last year. He is wrestling with a lot of confidence and if he can stay focused, has a good shot to come home with a medal.-Jesse Browne: The district tournament was the first… more »

Thought we wrestled well this weekend at confernce. We were without Jesse and Thomas which probably gives us an extra 30 points, but at this time in the year, we need to be healthly, so thye'll try this week. Travis and Ryan were conference champs, and Curtis was runner-up. This weekend is what we have been working for all year long, motto becomes 7 or 4. more »

Weekend thoughts

Curtis Gocke | Profile
February 2, 2009

If Grand Island comes next year the Skutt tournament will get tougher, until that does happen, we need to continually get better in order to compete at a higher level. Weaknesses exposed, injury bug arrival and getting back to the basics are thing that are on the plate right now to take care of. get away from our wrestling a little bit, the boys had a great time at UNO vs. UNK on saturday. We went out to eat and then headed over to the dual. I think I converted a few guys to be lopers, but not all. Many… more »

The Big Show

January 30, 2009

As the Freeman Tournament is so called, was not so big. Getting to bed at 1:15 on a Thursday night is not a good way to start the weekend. Two champs, a second and two thirds is ok though. The boys have a chance to compete against some varsity kids, and also have team points. Thought Jacob Pierce wresled very well along with Cody larsen. more »

January 29, 2009

After a day off from our crazy weekend, we have had practice the last two days and have really been working on staying in good position. We have started to focus on the athletes strength and not try to put new things into their head unless they ask. Our motto has been countdown it started with 16 or 13, 15 or 12 now its' 14 or 11, the smaller number represents practices till districts, larger number represents practices left for those that make it to state. JV's get a chance to get into a nice class D varisty tourney and… more »

Wow what a weekend. 3 Tournaments - 3 days. Picked up and put away and ready for more. It's nice to have the day off after a hectic weekend, the athletes should enjoy it too. Middle School starts practice today, they will be using our team website as well, so stay up to date on all their happenings also. Overall Varsity tourney went well, we finished 3rd out of 13 teams. Have yet to finish a tournament lower than 3rd as a team. Jv's had two champs and the kids club tourney brought right at 600 kids in. more »

Sick and tired of being sick and tired

Curtis Gocke | Profile
January 21, 2009

We have yet to be truly effected by any injury bug (knock on wood), but we have had the many sicknesses that are running all over our school. instead of athe panting of hard work, it's a cough or sniff, or sneeze. During this time of year it's very easy to get in a rut and continue to do the same thing over and over and over and over. This is a time for focus, hard work and ability to change the problems, that have cost us some big matches.   For those of you that watched Obama's speech yesterday,… more »

Work to do

Curtis Gocke | Profile
January 20, 2009

Yes Mr. president we still have work to do. In many ways this week. We are still working on being a very technically sound team. Our future is struggling right now, JV tournaments have not been easy for us, they will have many opportunities to correct these mistakes over the next month. Our other work is that we have three tournaments at home this week. Our community and team, alumni and club will all play a huge role in making this weekend a success. more »

Alumni

January 15, 2009

What an important part of your program. Looking back on the winter break and having some of those old faces reappear helps you remember where we have come from. We even have some alumni still in the community and actively helping out on many differnt levels. We had two stop into practice yesterday and talked and wrestled with our kids. Jerrod is even one of our middle school coaches. Its great for them and us to keep them around. Flowrestling gives us an opportunity to stay in touch with them as well. more »

Districts

January 13, 2009

Coach O has been duing some homework trying to find out people and weights for district tourney. We definately have our work cut out for us. I hate looking ahead, but finding out who is where for teams and finding their opponents and results is important. We can take care of a few things this weekend winning some very key head to head match-ups. Some of these will be re matches in which we need to beat them again in a couple fo cases and in others we need to win that way we are 1-1 with them for seeding… more »

This torunament will competive at weights, I am going to make a statement that Blair will be our toughest competition, but we should be able to beat them. more »

What at great tournament. The 40th annual tournament was full of great matches, great teams, blood, and loud fans. Took a few minutes before the finals to talk about the history of the tournament, facts, history, wrestlers, teams and how the tourney started. Finalist were asked to wear throw back singlet, which were hilarious. Coach Loosevelt at Madison has put together a very nice team. They look to compete for the Class C title in February in Omaha. more »

Thank goodness we got out of the first round alive   Weeping Water has put together a nice team and challenged us early and often. Louisville and Conestroga were not much of a threat to compete with us. Our guys looked a little sluggish for the start and struggled to do some things right. Thank God in this sport there is always another chance to improve. See ya Friday.   Plattsmouth 3-0   Weeping Water 2-1 score  vs Plattsmouth37 -29   Conestoga 1-2 score vs. Platsmouth 68-6   Louisville 0-3 score vs. Plattsmouth  71-0 more »
