Making it happen
March 13, 2008
Well folks it has been awhile a few months since I have written a blog. My last blog was on Thanksgiving when I was in France wrestling in a tournament. I was not pleased with the way I had been wrestling in October and early November and then I stepped it up. I wrestled a dual meet against Russia in New Jersey and I beat the number 5 ranked Russian wrestle in the final seconds of the 3rd period. I tweaked my knee so I sat out the NYAC tournament that weekend so I was ready for France. In the finals of the French tournament I believe I won 6-0, 6-0 against the Russian who was 3rd at their nationals. I was really happy with the way I went out there and wrestled, but that feeling did not last long. January and February did not go well for me. I went to Krasnoyarsk and lost to someone I beat last year in Kiev in my first match, he did not make the finals so I was out of the tournament. Then I found out I was going to the World Cup so I sat out of the Dave Schultz tournament so I was 100% in Vladikavkaz. I wrestled ok but I still lost 2 matches to make it 3 losses in a row. In my first match I wrestled Adam Saitiev. I won the first period 7-3, then lost 1-0 1-0. This just didn’t sit right with me because I know I am capable of much more.
BOOM!
When I got home from the World Cup something happened to me mentally. I had many sleepless nights thinking about what the hell I was doing wrestling. Since I made the world team in 2006 I have wrestled in Azerbaijan, China, Iran, Russia (4X), Ukraine, Brazil, Belarus, and France. There is no excuse for me to have lost my last 3 matches, so that got me thinking. Right now I want to thank Lee Kemp for helping me get out of this rut I was in. While I was in Russia, I was able to workout and talk with Lee about wrestling. Lee has nothing but positive things to say and it wasn’t until I got an email from Kevin Jackson that I realized what I was doing wrestling. Here is the link to the website that was in the email http://successsecretsatkempskorner.blogspot.com/2008/03/message-55-one-third-of-all-placebos.html. I read message #55 then #17. After reading the 2 messages I realized what I was doing wrestling. I am wrestling to win a Gold medal in the Olympics. I have always thought of that as a goal, but now I finally believe myself. I am going to win a Gold medal because I have the best coaches in Sean Bormet, Kevin Jackson, Terry Brands, Lee Kemp, and Kerry McCoy. I am going to win the Gold medal because I train with the best wrestlers in the country Ryan Churella, Tyrel Todd, Donny Pritzlaff, Jake Herbert, and Clint Wattenberg. I am going to win the Olympics because I just started working with the best strength coaches in the country Mike Barwis and Chris Allen. I am going to win the Olympics because I believe in myself 100% and if I didn’t I shouldn’t even go to the Olympic Trials. Every wrestler should have this mind set but not every wrestler does. I guess everything in my life just came together to make me believe this, and since I started believing in myself my workouts have been much more productive in the fact that I am getting freak strong working with my new strength coach and I have finally learned how to score on wrestler with a left leg lead thanks to Lee Kemp.
Well that’s about it for now. I will be heading out to the NCAA tournament next week to cheer on the Michigan Wolverines as they try to accomplish each of their goals of becoming an NCAA champion. Maybe I will see some of you out there.
