Great 8 South Plainfield Tiger Tournament (#2)

WOW!!! That's about the best I can say after what I saw the boys do this weekend. That had to be some of the toughest wrestling I have seen out of these young bucks to date. Dean took first place, but the most impressive match of the day (for me) was my oldest son Charlie. He wrestled the toughest match I have EVER seen him compete in. Since the rule changed he wrestled what I called TRIPLE overtime and dug down deeper than I ever thought he could go to win the match 9-5. I have seen him wrestle hard before, but he went so far beyond his limits that it simply left me stunned and speechless...

Charlie is very laid back and easy going so I wasn't quite sure wrestling would be a natural fit for him. I've often asked if he's "sure" this is the sport he wants to do because sometimes out on that mat he looks like he'd rather be ANYWHERE else but out there. He always says he loves the sport and just gets upset because he can't be perfect right away - - - I understand that, but I never want my boys to wrestle because they think it's what I want them to do, I want them to do it for the love of the sport and the level of dedication it takes to improve and compete. As a father I am proud of how deep he went to rise to a level that I didn't think Charlie could take himself to yet. As a coach I am amazed at the determination and heart he displayed to the very end - - - and as a wrestler I am impressed with the size of the fight in the dog...

Charlie Peterson vs. Chris Cannon

In the greatest and toughest match I have EVER seen Charlie wrestle he came out the other side with a win 9-5 in what I consider to be "triple overtime" - - - I have seen Charlie wrestle tough matches before but nothing like this - - - you can see he gets pretty upset at one point and almost goes hyper-v, but he pulls it together and digs deeper than I have ever seen him do. An awesome, awesome job Charlie...
