NCAA Recap
March 24, 2008
What an awesome year! This college year was great in so many ways. I think that some how I developed a new appreciation of wrestling. The NCAA tournament capped it off. And when I sat on the sidelines of the Quarters and Semis and All-American Round I just loved watching the tension and emotion. Even the 1-1 matches were stacked with pressure and excitement. Sometimes even more exciting than the high scoring matches.
How bout that Metcalf vs Palmer, that was awesome especially when Palmer got in deep at the end of the third and Metcalf frantically scrambled out of it like his life was at stake. MAN oh MAN the intesnisty!
How bout the emotion from Coleman Scott and his coaches after pinning in the finals (maybe he should have gotten OW) or the other cowboy Jack Jenson who came back in the All-American round down 6-1 and found a way to win. I dont think I have ever seen John Smith so excited. This was a kid who was unranked in February but clawed back and won when I thought he was done.
How bout Ohio State coming in 2nd! 3 Finalists and Mike Pucillo winning on 5 seconds of riding time in the last overtime??!!! The guys who often live by close matches died in one round or another. Josh Glenn and Jake Varnerhad heartbreaking tournaments. Both were guys that were favorites to win it and both fell.
How bout the athleticism and emotion from phil Davis. 4x All American 2x Finalist and now a National Champ. I wouldnt want to meet up with this dude in MMA. Or the Cornell wrestler Leen. He really came out of no where. I LOOOOVVEEE IT!!!
Central Michigan came up short at its title run but it was a tough mountain to climb for the small university in Michigan. Tom Borrelli is such a stud and visonary. Speaking of which Old Dominion and Coach Martin got its first All American in over a decade.
And when it all comes down to it Iowa bucked up and made it happen. Iowa is officially back and Tom Brands aint stopping here.
PS
Did I hear correctly that Cornell has 6 returning All Americans?
