Team Work

The Springs has been absolutely amazing. I was suppose to be here 9 months ago, something Terry Brands wont let me forget. Better late than never.

The USA team looks strong and ready. The keyword is team. Kevin Jackson (ISU) and Terry Brands (Iowa) are running a system where their guys are beginning to gel. Can they grow as a team more? I think so but these coaches are on the right track.

America is great because great people have an opportunity to be around other great people who think different. But when a "team" is filled with different guys who dont converse on and off the mat much because they come from rivalling colleges, then you lose the real power of America..the melting pot. Sure you may always get individuals here and there that can win the gold but I dont see us having a system that allows us to win team titles year in and year out.

When ideas can be exchanged openly, and when criticism is welcomed between intellegent and able people with different perspectives then growth is exponential. This is America's Ace in the hole. It is a key dynamic that makes us great.

There is not too many people more different than Daniel Cormier (Okie State) and a guy like Mike Zadick (Iowa), or a guy like Tommy Rowlands (Ohio State) and Henry Cejudo. All those guys are able and intellegent (you should see Cormier take tests). Their differences will help them become better and stronger so long as they converse and become a true team not just name.
