some thoughts after the Russia's senior championship 2009 in Greco-Roman

Now, after the end of the championship I can jump to some conclusions in all weight categories.

Let's start from 55 - there are 2 leaders - brothers Nazir Mankiev (olympic champion) and Bekhan Mankiev. They both are from Republic of Ingushetia but train in Krasnoyarsk now. I think there are no competitors for them in Russia and in the whole world now, simply, they are the best.

60 kg - our friend Islam-Bek Albiev (olympic champion) haven't compete there, so we saw another athletes - I can name Dzhaste, Abdullin and of course my close friend also from Chechnya (like me and Albiev) - Ibragim Labazanov. For Ibragim, this competitions were second after his injury, we worked hard with him for last year, but I think he will still have problems for a half a year, still needs to recover, he is hiding his shoulder in wrestling.. So he became second, after Dzhaste (some judges helped Dzhaste to win this time) but he was selected to the Russia National Wrestling team, so I can tell that we made some success with him..)

66 kg - Our Ilyas Magomadov became third, after absurd loss in the semi-final against Adam Kurak (who won the title).. Ilyas lead after first period - 4:0, but then due to his age (he is only 19) he lost 2 next periods.. But he was also selected to the Russia National Wrestling Team, so it's a success for me, for him and all others who was training him. By the way, another guy from our club became third too - Seyran Simonyan - but we are not training him..)

74 - in the abscence of Magomed Magomadov there are no leaders in Russia, Samurgashev broked his chin in the second match, and Belkhoroev lost too.. But Chekhirkin from our club became first and that was really COOL:)

84 - without Mishin champion is Shokalov...

96 - Mishin won, although his category is 84, he decided to wrestle in this one and won

120 - i was not interested in it)))

All in all, i think we have a lot of thing to do, at 15 of July wrestling camp for Russian National Wrestling Team is starting and there will be 2 our personal pupils))

DaveP, first of all, thanx for the comment..
Yes, a lot of wrestlers in Russia (absolute majority) are muslims, but they are not russians by nationality. There are a lot of nationalities living in Russia, but wrestling is the most popular sport among the nationalities of the mountainious region named North Caucasus. Chechens, ingushs, nations of Dagestan, ossetians, kabardins, chircassians, adygs, karachays and balkars live there.
for example - Buvaysar Saitiev, Adam Saitiev, Salman Khassimikov, Islam-bek Albiev, Ramazan Shahin(from turkey) - are chechens, Makhach Murtazaliev is avar (Republic of Dagestan), Arsen Fadzaev, Soslan Andiev, Khadjimurad Gatsalov are ossetians, Nazir Mankiev, Bekhan Mankiev, Ruslan Belkhoroev are ingush, etc..)
The national menthality of those nations - is figting, wrestling. For example, Russian Empire was conquering small Chechnya for about 400 years.
One great russian poet Mikhail Lermontov wrote about chechens -

And savage are the tribes of these ravines
Their God is freedom, their law is war;
They grow up admist covert attacks,
Cruel deeds and deeds extraordinary;
In the craddle their mothers' songs
Frighten their children with the Russian name;
To strike the enemy is no crime there;
True is friendship there, vengeance even truer;
Good for good is given there, and blood for blood is spilt,
And hatred is as limitless, as love...

so by providing this example i want to show the national character, the way of living and the cultural diversity from other muslims, in other countries they are not so agressive and dare..)))

Great post first off, I need to look into the blog section more often to get some tips on Greco wrestlers to check out.

I also wanted to mention something that I am just now learning about athletes coming out of the former USSR... a good number of them happen to be Muslim.I am a bit embarrassed about my lack of knowledge on this subject, but I think many American sports fans (like myself) view the former Soviet Union Territories as communist states rather than the melting pot of ethnicity and religion that they are/were the whole time.
Many wrestlers here in the United States are vocal about how Christianity has impacted their lives (Slay and the Brands immediately come to mind), I would love to hear how some of the worlds true wrestling elite feel that Islam has impacted their lives/wrestling. Maybe I'm just a wrestling fan that has reached dork levels, but I really think a show like Real Sports or E:60 could really do a interesting segment on this topic.
