Backlog: Wrestling as Quality Entertainment

? "Entertainment" Posted by Brad Anderson on Saturday, May 16th, 2009. Last night Dave Mills and I were lucky enough to be guest coaches at the Team Michigan/USA vs. Russia "Battle of the Xtreme" hosted by Michigan Xtreme. At this once-in-a-lifetime cultural exchange, there were two duals featuring some of the best high school wresters in the state against a myriad of Russian wrestlers. The Russians were from all over. It's hard to wrap your head around how big of a nation they come from and the hard and foreign life they endure. A couple of t...

It is mid-summer and I am reminded of one my favorite quotes, penned by one of our founding fathers... “There will come a time when winter will ask what you were doing all summer.” -Thomas Jefferson Two hundred years ago on the American frontier this quote referred to all of the work that had to be done during the summer in order to prepare for the harsh Northeastern winters. People from the fishing and lobster towns of Maine to the hayfields of Massachusetts and into the hollers of Appalachia realized that summer time was a crucia...

Hello Everyone, Again, thank you for all of your support this season. It was a good season but we can always be better. The coaches have already met and laid out a plan of attack for the next campaign. We had one all state wrestler this year, which is great, but it is not enough...We can do better! With all of the love and support we have in our community, I believe we can reach new heights as a program. Parents, please take my "call of duty" to heart. I only ask of you that you hold your son/daughter accountable. If we want to enjoy sustained...

Last night wasn't the way any coach or wrestler wants to end the team portion of the season. The way our guys wrestled against Byron Center will haunt me until the second week in November, months and months from now. It will be the reason I get up early every day and all the motivation I need as a coach to work harder, dig deeper and stay later...Nonetheless, after letting last nights' disappointment distill, I have to remind myself to take stock of the blessings of this season. Our win against Caledonia could've been a movie script. The drama,...

In the depths of the Holland locker room on January 7th, we were faced with a decision: Wrestle with character or resign ourselves to mediocrity and complacency. The team was quiet as the coaching staff made their entrance into the locker room. Seated against the walls of the drab and ill-lit dungeon, the Rangers could only imagine the burst of retribution they were about to receive. Instead, in very measured tones and whispers, the coaching staff delivered a requiem of our expectations. On the FHC Wrestling coaching staff, we take practice and...
