5 Counties

5 counties tournament is one of the nations toughest tournaments and is the toughest tournament in the state of California. California is the nations largest wrestling state and the top teams from California flock to this tournament as a predecessor to the epic state tournament of California.

In comparing CA and PA wrestling. I know that earlier this year Clovis West went to the Powerade tournament in PA. Zack Zimmer wrestled Nico Megaladius and lost in O.T. Nico M. won the state tournament in PA and Zack Zimmer placed 4th here in CA. That's one weight class where PA's 112 state champ probably would not be the state champ in CA.

This is a preview of the state tournament. Sometimes they have an out of state team (Great Bridge a couple of years ago). We should see Hunter Collins, Jason Welch, Louis Bland, Williams? (south hills lightweight). BTW, Steve Neal and Townsend Saunders did not win the Ca State tourny.

Neither did Tim Vanni, Quincey Clark, Dan Henderson, Mark Fuller, and Jamill Kelly...All Olympians from Cal.

How can you compare PA and CA in wrestling? California has a true state championships with over 800 schools that compete. How many divisions and how many state champs are there in each weight in PA? California is a barn burner this isn't even a sensible dicussion. And where is this "proven year in and year out"? I hope your not referring to Nationals where there are 3x as many wrestlers from PA competing. It is a whole lot more economical for the PA wrestlers to attend nationals than for the kids from CA. Regarldess of which state is tougher, I have respect for them just going out there and sticking with it.
