It's official: 2019 was the biggest Fargo ever. And just how immense was the latest edition of the US Marine Corp USA Wrestling 16U and Junior National Championships? We will dig into the numbers and tell you!

And what better way to examine the number of entries at Fargo over the last ten years than with our favorite, a stacked bar graph? None. There are none better ways in our opinion!

The numbers in the above graph are not total wrestlers, as there are many male wrestlers that compete in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Similarly, it is not uncommon to see female wrestlers compete in both 16U (formerly cadet) and the junior tournaments. Those individual wrestlers would be counted twice in the numbers above (which include both age groups in the three style groups).

That's just the last ten years, but what about in total Fargo history? Well, our numbers only go back to 1997 (thanks to Jason Bryant and Mattalk Online for the data), but at no point in recent history did the entry total ever creep over 4,505 (in 2002), so we feel comfortable calling this the biggest Fargo ever.

Incidentally, FloWrestling started broadcasting every match live in 2013. Here are links to our coverages if you'd like to enjoy a lengthy and comprehensive stroll down memory lane.

More evidence that the U16 and Junior National Championship is in rude health is that all six tournaments increased the number of entries year over year. The increase from 2014 to 2019 is even more impressive.

Those gains are summarized in the tables below.

Big gains all around, but staggering jumps from the women's divisions. How wonderful it is to see such growth in one of America's marquee wrestling tournaments!
