Meet The Contenders: Macey Kilty vs Kennedy Blades

Macey Kilty is returning to WNO to take on up-and-comer Kennedy Blades.

Most people are familiar with Macey Kilty. She’s making her second appearance at Who’s #1 this year and is fresh off of doing a whole bunch of winning.

Across the mat from her is Kennedy Blades, the first incoming freshman we’ve had at WNO since 2014, when Gavin Teasdale and Cade Olivas squared off in the first high school match of their careers. Anyway, Kilty and Blades will be the second girls match ever to go down in the Snakepit. This will also be the second time facing off against each other since meeting in the best-of-three finals at the Cadet World team trials.

Looking for redemption this year. Kilty came up short against Gracie Figueroa at last year’s WNO, but she’s been pretty dominant ever since. She collected a Cadet world title this year in Zagreb, then shortly after headed to Fargo to collect the fourth stop sign of her career.

Kennedy Blades

Like I stated above, Blades is the first incoming freshman wrestler to get an invite to WNO since 2014. And though she is just starting out, the future Wyoming Seminary Knight is well worth the nod. She dominated her way to a Cadet Fargo title going unscored upon with three pins and a tech in the finals that all came in under two minutes.

How do they match up?

Blades is a long and lengthy wrestler who can work from space whereas Kilty likes to do work from the inside working off and controlling ties. When they met in the Cadet trials finals, Blades was able to get to Kilty's legs and score a few takedowns, however, Kilty was able to grind her way to victory with her constant pressure.
