Imar Up To 74kg At Last Chance Qualifier
Sources have confirmed that Martinez will be wrestling at 74kg at the Last Chance Qualifier in Rochester, MN, on May 20-21.
Much of the wrestling world has been wondering at which weight two-time NCAA champion Isaiah Martinez would compete at when he made the jump to the senior level. We have our answer. Sources have confirmed that Martinez will be wrestling at 74kg at the Last Chance Qualifier in Rochester, MN, on May 20-21. The last time that we saw Imar compete in freestyle was at the 70kg World Team Trials held at the Bill Farrell in New York.
The cut to 70kg looked to weigh on Martinez and undoubtedly played a role in the decision to make the jump to 74kg. At the Farrell, Imar looked uncharacteristically sluggish in his semifinal bout with Jimmy Kennedy. When the match was over, Martinez injury defaulted out of the tournament. Whether Martinez's reason for not competing in the rest of the tournament was an actual injury, a bad weight cut, or just a matter of saving himself for the upcoming NCAA season is still unclear.
