There are a few very interesting entrees into the University Greco field which goes down this Friday. Some guys are well established in the Greco realm, some even having had success at the Senior level. There are others who are more known for their Folkstyle and Freestyle accolades than their chops in the Greco realm.

Watching Penn State's Jered Cortez and Missouri's Alan Waters try their luck at 59kg will be very exciting. Coach Lindland has worked hard to widen the pipeline of talent competing in Greco competition. Recently a newly converted Greco athlete Hayden Zillmer made the national team at 85kg (more on Zilmer in a bit). Interestingly, Waters and Cortez are both registered to compete in Freestyle as well.

There are a number of elite Greco athletes in the University mix. The aforementioned Hayden Zillmer not only placed true third, he beat two returning world team members (Patrick Martinez and Jordan Holm) to do so. With more time of Greco focus, Zillmer could become a threat to make a run at a World Team sooner rather than later.

At 71kg Alejandro Sancho will be in the field. Sancho is a former Junior World Team member and was in the Senior World Team Trials finals in 2015.

At 75kg Jesse Porter pushed Kamal Bey to the brink at the Junior World Team Trials. The arm-spin happy Porter will be vying for the 75kg spot.

85 will feature a former world teamer in Patrick Martinez, and a stud rising up the Senior Level ranks in Hayden Zillmer. Other athletes are in the mix at this weight, but it is looking like a Zillmer vs Martinez rematch could be imminent.

G'Angelo Hancock is looking to make not one but two age level world teams. Hancock made the National team at 98kg, then a few weeks later made the Junior World Team. Now he'll look to do it again at 98kg for the Junior World Team spot. In his way is a solid Senior level performer in Orry Elor was 4th in the Olympic Trials in April. He was tech-falled by Hancock in the match to make the National team.

A few other interesting hammers in the mix: Kade Moss, Barrett Stanghill, Grant LaMont, Travis Rice and Dmitry Ryabchinskiy.
