Sunday's Session I Results
USA def. Mongolia, 8-0

57 KG: Tony Ramos (USA) vs. Tsogtbaatar Damdinbazar (Mongolia)

1st: Good work on the head by Tony through the first :30. He's dominating the center. Then, inexplicably, gets warned for passivity. Go figure. MGL gets a passive :15 later. Tony goes on the clock at 1:37. MGL just completely runs away from contact and Tony gives up a point. Ramos in on a low shot but MGL kicks free. 1-0 Damdinbazar.

2nd: Ramos in on same shot he almost got at the end of the first, but same result. USA coaches want passive and get it. Dmdinbazar on the clock at 3:28. Tied at 1 after Tony defends. Damdinbazar is all upper body stuff. Official calls for another MGL passive but it's white paddled. Double from space by Ramos doesn't go. Under :30. Shot by MGL, reshot by Ramos but MGL is slippery. MGL looking hard for a pushout, Tony trying to counter. Time runs out. Ramos wins, 1-1.

61 KG: Coleman Scott (USA) vs. Nemekhbayar Batsaikhan (Mongolia)

1st: Coleman trying to create space. Both guys with committed shots that are stuff in the first :35. First passive call on Batsaikhan at :54. He gets to an underhook and gets hip-to-hip and gets the score. 2-0 at 1:33.  At 2:02 Coleman goes from a collar tie to an absolutely filthy ankle pick to tie it up.

2nd: During a flurry, Coleman kinda falls into a low single and crosses the body and gets the 2. Batsaikhan goes back into that underhook, Coleman whizzers hard and looks like he has a pushout but no point. Back to the center, Coleman finds an ankle and drives through for another two. 6-2. On the restart, Batsaikhan gets to double unders and forces a pushout. Coleman takes a double but feels something he doesn't like and bails on it. 6-5 now. Under :30. Another quality double from space by Coleman but he can't finish. Counter by MGL, and then Coleman throws an arm by! 8-5 for Coleman. USA 2-0.

65 KG: Brent Metcalf (USA) vs. Mandakhnaran Ganzorig (Mongolia)

1st: Scoreless halfway through the period, Metcalf already with a passive warning. Shot by Ganzorig and Metcalf stuffs him into front head. Big turn by Metcalf for exposure! Ganzorig squeeks out for the reversal. 2-1 Metcalf. A short while later, Metcalf gets put on the clock and can't score. 2-2 and the break.

2nd: Metcalf still holding criteria. While there's not a lot of clean shots, these guys are scrapping super hard. High pace. Whole they're handfighting, Metcalf sees an opeing on his Hi-C and finishes clean! 4-2! Ganzorig taking a lot of shots now. Another Ganzorig shot and Metcalf almost pancakes him! He just ends up with the 2. How Ganzorig got out of that trouble is amazing. Ganzorig's pace is crazy (consider he's wrestling Metcalf, who breaks everyone). An inside trip by him doesn't go and Metcalf counters at the buzzer! 8-2 final.

70 KG: Nick Marable (USA) vs. Ankhbayar Batchuluun (Mongolia)

1st: Halfshots through the first minute. Decent ankle pick attack by Batchuluun gets Marable a passive warning. Batchuluun gets put on the clock at 1:47. Marable defends. 1-0 Marable at end of 1.

2nd: Shot by Batchuluun and Marable drags into rear standing. Batchuluun turns in but Marable drives across the hips for 2. 3-0 halfway. Marable staying in really good position in that shallow tie. A couple shots by Batchuluun and then he goes double overs looking and Marable plants him on the edge. They rule it a push out for Batchuluun. SMH. Marable then gets a pushout to end things 4-1. USA leads 4-0.

74 KG: Jordan Burroughs (USA) vs. Unurbat Purevjav (Mongolia)

1st: JB picks an ankle and gets an early score. Pace slows down and there's nothing really close to scoring the rest of the period.

2nd: JB opens things about :45 in on a low shot to the right. He's close to scoring at 4:45 but they rule Purejav was defending on his knees during the push out. JB finds another opportunity from his knees for another score with :13 left. 6-2 final.

86 KG: Clayton Foster (USA) vs. Usukhbaatar Purevee (Mongolia)

1st: First half of the period and the two spend a lot of time in collar ties. Purevee gets put on the clock at 1:47. But it's Foster pushing the action in that :30. The end up in over-unders and Purevee scores 2 on the edge.

2nd: Good action at the end of the first minute and Foster gets to rear standing but can't finish when he drops to a leg. At 4:45, another good exchange by both guys and Foster drives through and then ankle picks Purevee on the edge. 2-2 and he has criteria. He almost scores on another ankle pick but than defends well in the final seconds. 2-2 final.

97 KG: Jake Varner (USA) vs. Khuderbulga Dorjkhand (Mongolia)

1st: Jake heavy on the head and forces Dorjkhand on the clock at :58. He defends easily. 1-0. Jake staying in the center with a collar tie and then shucks MGL off balance, and pounces for two. Dorjkhand almost gets a pushout late, but Jake circles in. 3-0 end of 1.

2nd: A minute in and Varner gets a passive warning. Jake is controlling everything in the match with that collar tie. Dorkjhand just can't get through it. 3-0 final.

125 KG: Zach Rey (USA) vs. Chuluunbat Jargalsaikhan (Mongolia)

1st: Tervel wastes no time. He gets in on a snatch single and converts and goes right to a mid gut that's good for 2. 4-0 :38 in. Pace slows but with under :30 left Tervel barzegars through Jargalsaikhan for another score and a 6-0 lead.

2nd: The tech is complete :58 seconds into the 2nd when Tervel shoots a low ankle shot and gets another gut.

USA def. Russia, 4-4 (17-16 classification points)

57 KG: Tony Ramos (USA) vs. Omak Syuruun (Russia)

1st: Ramos with collar ties looking high crotch to the right early but Syuruun out-quicks him to the corner and takes a 2-0 lead. A slow period followed by Ramos picking up the pace and the ref gives Syuruun a passivity warning. High crotch gets in for Ramos but he rushes it as time expires.

2nd: Ramos in on a shot right off the whistle. Shot and reshots by both guys but neither can quite seal the deal. 1 minute gone by scoreless. Level change and crisp double by TRam! Almost had a lace working but called oob. Tied at 2 halfway and Ramos holding criteria. Shot by Syuruun countered from out front by Ramos! 4-2 with :34 left. Syuruun coming hard. Ramos snaps into front head and finds an angle and time expires!

61 KG: Coleman Scott (USA) vs. Murshid Mutalimov (Russia)

1st: Coleman gets a push out early. Mutalimov with a blast double scores it. Later in the period, the Russian scores on a go behind off a two-on-one. 4-1 end 1.

2nd: Nothing doing early. Mutalimov throwing a lot at Scott but he's defending everything. Looks like Coleman is trying to operate from space. He takes a shot and then looks duck but Mutalimov catches a foot and gets rear standing. Coleman turns in and goes double overs put Mutalimov counters for a 4pter and a 10-1 win.

65 KG: Brent Metcalf (USA) vs. Ahkmed Chakaev (Russia)

1st: Chakaev trying to work a Russian tie early. He then finds a leg and drives through it to open scoring at :55. Metcalf falls into a shot off a tie but Chakaev belly guts and Metcalf pauses. After the stalemate, another Metcalf shot and another stalemate. Chakaev wrestling a lot of upper body stuff. And just when I write that he takes a low singel. Metcalf exposes Chakaev on it and it's ruled 2-Metcalf, 1-Chakaev for a 3-2 score.

2nd: Metcalf peels off a tie then looks sweep single. Nothing doing. 1minute in and still 3-2. Metcalf crowding. Wrap arm. There's that chest wrap by Chakaev again and Metcalf adjusts to both legs. Everyone wants to. Metcalf keeps working and gets it. 4-3 at 4:35. Chakaev super slow to get back to restart. Chakaev tries to lower his level and Metcalf just blows right through him. Crowd is crazy. Gut! And another! And Another! Metcalf leads 12-3 and works on another TD. There it is! Tech at the buzzer!

70 KG: Nick Marable (USA) vs. Israil Kasumov (Russia)

1st: Marable looking for safe offense (snatch singles) early. And there one is at the 1 minute mark. Standing single but Kasumov crawls up and away and counters for 2! That was pretty filthy. 2nd: Marable in on that short single but Kasumov slippery and gets away clean. It puts Kasumov on the shot clock though. 3-1 when that expires. QUICK knee pull by Marable and he scores it clean this time. 3-3 with Nick holding the hammer. He takes a deep shot! Looks like he scored but they don't call it. Kasumov comes upperbody. Refs all score it different. I have no idea what on god's green earth they are looking at. Scoreboard reads 5-3 Russia and Sammy will challenge. The score moves to 4-3. Not sure how that's possible. :31 left. Nick psuingg hard and gets in deep but exposed. He scrambles and picks up 2. 6-5 and time runs out. Another review and they change it to 6-4.

74 KG: Jordan Burroughs (USA) vs. Yakub Shikhghamalov (Russia)

He gets a push out :30 later. He's in on another shot and the Russian does a good job squaring up but Burroughs keeps driving forward and gets another pushout. Another low shot, another pushout. Again. Working low-to-high, he forces Shikhghamoalov out again. 4-0 after 1.

2nd: Burroughs jsut outhustling. He gets a low shot to score 2 early in the period. Amazing pace by him. JB has him off balance with shot fakes then blasts through a double. 8-0. Moments later, same deal for the tech. USA up 3 matches to 2.
