America's Best Junior Team Heads To Croatia
Best ever? Difficult to tell. But one thing's for certain, the U.S. Men's Freestyle team is the most anticipated in recent memory.
Along with the U.S. Women and Greco teams, the 8-man star-studded squad heads to Zagreb, Croatia to compete at a Junior World Championships from which many expect a basket full of medals.
The U.S. has posted two Top 5 finishes in the last five years and this team is expected to surpass that. In 2009 the U.S. had medalists in Dom Bradley (Gold), Jordan Oliver (Bronze), and Andrew Howe (Bronze) along with 5th place finishers Tony Ramos and Chris Perry, to take 4th in the final team standings.
Returning Junior World Champion, Kyle Snyder leads the way with Cadet World Team Champions Aaron Pico and Adam Coon in tow, the men's team is talented and proven on the international level already.
In addition to Snyder, Pico, and Coon, Thomas Gilman and Joey McKenna have been on previous World Teams.
Jon Jay Chavez, a Bronze medalist last year, and Kevin Beazley return to the Greco team along with Coon, who was on the Cadet World Team in both styles in 2012.
On the Women's side, Cody Pfau returns after a 5th place showing last year. Kayla Miracle was a Cadet finalist in 2012. Marina Doi makes her first JR Worlds appeance after medaling three times as a Cadet.
Starting on Tuesday, wrestling begins at 10AM local time each day until finals and bronze bouts are set (approximately 2PM). That's 4AM to 8AM U.S. East Coast, with finals and medal bouts at 1PM (ET) on Tuesday and Noon (ET) on all successive days.
