If last year's Powerade was an indication as to how great this year's tournament is going to be, then expect only the best. This year's field is very similar to that of 2012: 7 Powerade champions return in 2013, including #1 Chance Marsteller, as do 6 runner ups and 53 returning place winners from last year's tournament. We're all still wondering what could possibly top last year's Martsetller v. Wiercioch battle (100,000 views!); I just might've found it! At 145lbs. we have three PA tate champions vying for a Powerade title: nationally ranked #2 Jason Nolf, #3 Joey Galasso and #6 Solomon Chishko. 2x state champion Nolf comes in the favorite after putting together one of the most dominant summers and falls of any wrestler in the country, but Galasso, who will be making his return to competition, should be spry and Chishko will be looking to redeem himself after a disappointing Ironman tournament.

Still the wrestler to look for is all-time PA great and a wrestler whose name has been tattooed into the consciousness of high school wrestling fan for three years now: Chance Marsteller. This will be his first big showing as a senior in the state of PA and his final Powerade tournament. You do not want to miss the show he puts on.

2013 Tournament Coverage

The Al Dvorak Memorial Invitational has, over the years, garnered the reputation as the best in-season high school wrestling tournament in Illinois. It has turned into much more than that.

This year’s Dvorak Invitational plays host to just under 30 of the best teams from Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin, with three of those teams being ranked in the top 35 nationally by Flowrestling. The spotlight will be on nationally ranked #5 Montini Catholic who took second at the 2012 Dvorak before running away with an Illinois Class AA Dual State Championship. There will be more than a few teams who expect to bring them down a peg or two, especially: Dakota HS (Class A Dual State Champions), Marmion Academy (Class AAA Runner-Up), Yorkville (Class AA Runner-Up) and nationally ranked #16 Marist HS.

On the individual side, all eyes are sure to fall on what is soon to become a historic Illinois state match up between 3x IL state champion and nationally ranked #1 Jared Cortez v. 3x IL state champion and nationally ranked #7 Josh Alber. The forums are already abuzz with discussion of this match up as it is no doubt the #1 most anticipated in-season match in the power state of Illinois this year. And why's it so intriguing? Well if you missed the part where I mentioned how each wrestler is a 3x state champion and ranked in the top 10 nationally, then also consider this: Josh Alber is undefeated in HS (a perfect 139-0) and will be bumping up in weight to 132lbs. to face the #1 Jared Cortez.
