CP's What 2 Watch 4 This Weekend
Port v. Carter, Schiller v. Gadson Highlight Potential Matchups
Christian Pyles

We’ll hit the major dual individual matches as well as possible tournament match ups between studs. It won’t be an all inclusive match for match preview, but you’ll know what to keep your eye out for.

November 15

Bloomsburg vs. Lehigh

-#4 Mason Beckman of Lehigh will take on #14 Nick Wilcox.    Beckman is a pretty big favorite here.

-#14 Bryce Busler announced himself this weekend.  Let's see if he can take care of business against UR Mitch Minotti, who is still trying to find more consistency to remain ranked permanently.

-Lehigh's blue chip recruit Brian Brill could announce himself here against #6 Josh Veltre.  He's going to be a pretty large underdog here.

Utah Valley vs. CMU

I said last week to keep an eye on Corey Keener.  He did well and made the MSU Open finals.  He'll get a shot at #12 Jade Rauser here.

Notre Dame vs. Ohio State

How I wish Joey Davis were D1.  I don't see any way he doesn't beat Mark Martin of Ohio State in this spot.   I'd like to see him bump up and wrestle Courts.  That's just fantasy land stuff though.

Boise State vs. Wyoming

Big spot here at 184 for Freshman and #19 ranked Ben Stroh of Wyoming.  He will tangle with #7 Jacob Swartz of Boise.

November 16

Virginia Tech vs. Edinboro

At 125 we could see super Freshman Joey Dance (ranked 20th) take on veteran Korey Mines of Edinboro.

Whoa baby! Big one here!  At 141 #2 Mitchell Port vs. #3 Devin Carter.  Call me a VA homer, but I got Devin here!

Here we go again! Another awesome one at 149, we'll see #6 Zach Neibert of VT take on #11 Dave Habat of Edinboro.  Guess what?  I like Neibert.

A tough unranked battle will go down at 184 between Vic Avery of Edinboro and Nick Vetterlein.  Avery had some buzz coming into the year, but has struggled thus far.  Good spot to get back on track.

Illinois v. Arizona State

We'll have a 14 v. 15 battle when Blake Stauffer of Arizona will take on Tony Dallago of Illinois.  I like Dallago here at 174.

Then at 184 we've got ASU's #14 ranked Kevin Radford.  He'll take on super-frosh Nikko Reyes.  Radford has already lost to a Freshman this year (Stroh).

Duke v. Purdue

Presumably we should get to see Cashe Quiroga and #20 Brandon Gambucci wrestle here at 133.  Quiroga missed a lot of time last year, so we'll see if he's wrestling.  If so could be a good spot for him to get back on the radar.

Maryland v. Stanford

Ryan Mango, the 3rd ranked 133 in the country will get a test from Geoff Alexander, currently ranked 13.  Alexander is coming off his first period fall over Jimmy Gulibon.

Freshman Heavyweight Josh Marchok could make a heavyweight splash taking on All American and currently #10 ranked Spencer Myers of Maryland.

Penn State v. Rider

This is a sneaky cool dual.  Rider is TOUGH.  They don't have the name recognition of most teams but they have a really solid group of guys.

#15 Rob Deutsch of Rider has the the Megalion here.  There were some murmurings of #3  Nico possibly redshirting.  Don't know how valid they are, but if he wrestles here that will lay that matter to rest.

At 165 #1 David Taylor will face #17 Ramon Santiago.  I think I've seen this movie before...

174 #20 Jim Resnick of Rider takes on #3 Matt Brown of Penn State.  Matt Brown looks like someone who would be miserable to wrestle against.

184 Morrison of Rider is on the cusp of being ranked.  Normally this would be a "who cares" match against Ed Ruth.  Ed is out, so we'll see how his replacement does.

Morgan McIntosh, the 7th ranked 197 will take the mat for PSU against Donald McNeil of Rider who is on the cusp of being ranekd as well.

Drexel v. Ohio

Phil Wellington(# 16), Ohio, is coming off a really solid MSU Open where he beat Braden Atwood.   He'll take on the always solid Brandon Palik of Drexel who is ranked 12.

Michigan v. Kent State

#19 Tyler Small came up small last weekend falling to unranked Kirchner and Spisak.  He can right the ship as he takes on #20 Stephen Dutton of Michigan.

#7 Eric Grajales of Michigan will take on previously ranked Michael DePalma of Kent State.

New to 184, #18 Max Huntley of Michigan will face #20 Sam Wheeler of Kent State.  Wheeler recently defeated Nick Vetterlein and Clint Morrison.

Eastern Michigan v. Ohio

At 197 we will see #17 Phil Wellington of Ohio tangle with #16 Nick Whitenburg of Eastern Michigan.

Eastern Michigan v. Drexel

Whitenburg will be tested again, this time against #12 Brandon Palik of Drexel.

Harold Nichols Open-D1 Teams in attendance: Iowa State, Minnesota, South Dakota State, West Virginia.

The storyline at 125 is to see what the young guns will bring to the table.  Minnesota needs production at this weight from Seth Brancale.  Will Iowa State unleash Earl Hall?

At 133 David Thorn should roll here.  I'm curious to see if WVU will send out Pennesi, who is solid, but unranked.

John Nicholson of Iowa State will go here.  Nicholson has been ranked previously but had some rough spots last year.  It is likely we will see Ness here and I would imagine he walks to a title as well.

A match to really have your eye on is #4 Mike Moreno of Iowa State potentially taking on #7 Danny Zilverburg of Minnesota.  Zilverburg is under the radar but has some legit wins at 157.  Two really good mat wrestlers here.

Boaz Beard, the 17th ranked 184 pounder from Iowa State will likely face Minnesota's current fill-in for Kevin Steinhaus, Brett Pfarr( Brett Favre!?) I like Pfarr here.

Another biggy!  #2 v. #3!  Minnesota's Scott Schiller, the 2nd ranked 197 pounder will take on Kyven Gadson of Iowa State, currently ranked 3rd.  Schiller won 5-2 at NCAA's.

November 17
Virginia Tech v. American

#20 Joey Dance  of VT will take on #16 David Terao of American.  Terao is wide open and Dance is an awesome athlete!  Should be a sweet one.

Bucknell v. Oklahoma State

The Cowboys are a team you need to have your eye on for a few reasons.  Who is the guy at 141? Will they pull Collica's redshirt? What about 184 where Freshman Jordan Rogers was handled in his wrestle off by Nolan Boyd?  How is the health of Josh Kindig?

We will have a battle of heavyweights when #13 Austin Marsden of Oklahoma State will take on #12 Joe Stolfi of Bucknell.

Hofstra v. Oklahoma State

Jamie Franco of Hofstra will take on #17 Eddie Klimara of Ok State in a battle at 125.

#2 Tyler Caldwell of Oklahoma State will face #19 Joe Booth of Hofstra.

National Champion Chris Perry will be tested  by Jermaine John, who is currently ranked 17th.

Northwestern v. Nebraska

A Big 10 showdown in November!  Sweet!

The big one here!  Huge test early in the season for Jason Tsirtsis.  The #9 ranked Freshman for Northwestern will take on the 4th ranked guy at 149.  Tsirtsis brings a very controlled pace with stingy defense.  That will contrast Sueflohn's wide open style.  Both guys have great gas tanks as well.

At 165 we will see #10 Pierce Harger of Northwestern tangle with #12 Austin Wilson of Nebraska.

At 285 2nd ranked Mike McMullan of Northwestern will face #20 Collin Jensen of Nebraska.

Oregon State v. Michigan

Huge spot here for newly ranked #1 Scott Sakaguchi at 149 pounds.  He will take on #7 ranked Eric Grajales of Michigan.   Grajales beat Sakaguchi last year.  Is the top ranked guy an underdog here!?  Here was their match last year

Moving on we'll have a sick battle of heavyweights!  I love a rematch.  Amarveer Dhesi, the Freshman from Canada, will take the mat for Oregon State.  He takes on Adam Coon (Cadet World Champ!) of Michigan.  Dhesi handled Coon at FILA Jr's this Spring.  Dhesi is still a folkstyle novice.  Let's see how the tables turn in a Folkstyle match compared to this beating.

Penn State v. Lehigh

It sounded like Jimmy Gulibon would be getting the nod here at 133 against Mason Beckman.  I'm not sure of the logic behind it considering Beckman handled him 4 times last year (6-2, 9-1, 3-2, Fall).  A win here for Gulibon could go a long way for him securing the starting job over Jordan Conaway.  A loss would give him a tougher mountain to climb.

James English of Penn State will take on Lehigh's Mitch Minotti, who will be very tested this weekend between English and Busler.

#8 Joey Napoli announced himself last year in a dual against PSU when he knocked of Dylan Alton.  Here he likely will face James Vollrath of PSU.  Vollrath is super tough and had a win over Alex Dieringer last year.

East Stroudsburg Open-D1 teams-Brown, Franklin & Marshall, Penn, Princeton, Sacred Heart

Could see a real battle at 141.  Adam Krop, the 14th ranked 141 pouner from Princeton will take on Richard Durso of F&M, currently ranked 7th.  Krop has a prior win over Durso.  Don't take your eyes off of Krop as he's beaten the likes of Evan HEnderson, Luke Vaith, Zach Neibert and Mike Nevinger.

NC State Open-D1 teams-Campbell, NC State, UNC, ODU

At 125 Nathan Kraisser could lock up with Jerome Robinson of ODU, or perhaps Brandon Jeske depending on who ODU sends.

Another ranked battle at 141.  #6 Evan Henderson of UNC will likely face #12 Chris Mecate of ODU.

Road Runnner Open-D1 Teams-App. State, Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Maryland and Navy

We've got a DOOZY at 174 with the #10, 11 and 12 ranked guys all in attendances.  #10 Dom Kastl of Cal Poly is here along with #11 Bryce Hammond of CSU Bakersfield and #12 Mat Milller of Navy!

That's about it for this weekend! Deuces!
