The No. 9 American University wrestling team moved up one spot in the InterMat tournament-strength rankings this week from its previous position at No. 10. Additionally, the Eagles still have four wrestlers ranked by InterMat in the national top-20 in their respective weight classes, including the No. 1 heavyweight Ryan Flores.

AU swept a trio of duals last week in California, defeating Cal State Bakersfield, No. 19 Cal Poly, and No. 23 Stanford. The Eagles have now won four duals in a row and have leveled their season record at 4-4.

Flores remains No. 1 at heavyweight for the seventh straight week. He is 6-0 on the season with five falls. The senior has now won 17 of his last 18 bouts dating back to last year.

Ganbayar Sanjaa remains at No. 4 at 157 lbs., a position he has held all season. The Midlands runner-up is 12-1 this year, including 8-0 in duals, with three major decisions, two falls, and one technical fall.

No. 13 Matt Mariacher moves up one spot at 141 lbs. after posting a 2-1 week in California. His lone defeat out West came to No. 4 Boris Novachkov of Cal Poly but a narrow 3-2 decision. Mariacher is 15-5 this year with three major decisions, two falls, and two technical falls. He has recorded 85 career wins at American, eighth-most in program history.

Daniel Mitchell rounds out AU's ranked wrestlers as he comes in at No. 18 this week at 197 lbs. after dropping four spots in the rankings. The Midlands placewinner registered a 2-1 week in California, which included a fall and a major decision. He is 11-6 on the season with three pins and three major decisions.

The Eagles will be idle this weekend before hosting a pair of duals next week, beginning on Thursday, January 19 against Hofstra. AU will make the quick turnaround to welcome North Carolina State to Bender Arena on Friday, January 20. Both duals will begin at 8 p.m., and live video coverage of both will be available on Eagles Vision TV.
