Top 10 College Matches Of The Year
My goal for this list was to not get too terribly wrapped up in the moment surrounding the match, rather just look at the match itself.  Certainly there were dozens of matches at NCAA's and conferences that meant a great deal more.  I was more/less looking for the best action, the most entertaining 7 minutes (or less).

10. Nathan Tomasello v. Dylan Peters - Cliff Keen Las Vegas

This match typifies part of what makes wrestling fantastic.  You don't always have to be the better guy to get the win.  Tomasello was in full pitbull form, rattling off takedown after takedown.  Peters executed a beautiful pinning combination and packed the NCAA Champ!

9. Logan Stieber v. Nick Dardanes - OSU v. Minnesota Dual
This was the last match we saw Logan Stieber truly pushed in college.  I think I love those matches where one guy smells blood in the water when another guy starts to hit the wall.  Matches like that are becoming more and more rare (in my opinion).  Even though this match had some controversy (Dardanes was shorted a point) around it, it was still a match full of 7 minues of action.

8. Devin Carter v. Mitchell Port - Midlands
Two guys that pulled the trigger constantly in a match but my takeaway will be the downright freaky hips displayed by Mitchell Port. It was a match I desperately wanted to see again but the seeding committee botched that (plus Devin losing to Kevin Jack didn't help either). I couldn't track this one down on Youtube anywhere but if you got to watch it live, you know why it's on the list.

7. Joey Dance v. Nathan Tomasello - VT v. OSU Dual
I don't actually enjoy watching Tomasello lose.  Just so happens that two of my favorites happened to be matches he lost.  He's one of my faves. I mentioned in yesterday's article that I naturally have an affinity towards matches I got to call or watch live.  I found this Dance/Tomasello match to be one that has stuck with me.  Check out the atmosphere and excitement and tell me you feel differently.

6. Matt Brown v. Kyle Crutchmer - OSU v. PSU Dual
This match was very un-174ish which was by and large a sudden-victory, 1 takedown fest. Not this match.  Back and forth it went into overtime in front of a rowdy Oklahoma State crowd.  Crutchmer thought he had the win in regulation but it went into OT which concluded with a wild flurry won by Matt Brown.

5. Dylan Palacio v. Devon Gobbo - EIWA's
I have a general policy in life and it's that if Dylan Palacio is wrestling, I will watch it.  His #YOLO style on and off the mat makes for fantastic entertainment.  It was 10-9 Gobbo after one period.  Palacio went to his back a few times in this match but found a way to hang on.  I've said enough, just watch it.

4. Hunter Stieber v. Zach Beitz - Big 10's
Guts personified.  I mentioned this in my 10 moments article I thought this was a huge moment for the season, but it was also a great match with Hunter barely beating the buzzer to qualify for NCAA's.

3. Sal Mastriani v. Matt Cimato - NCAA's
Maybe the most improbable comeback of the ones listed here.  Sal was down a couple scores late in the match.  At NCAA's you prioritize what you're going to watch with 8 mats you write a match off when it gets out of hand like this.  I made a big mistake doing that!  He was down 7-0 early and 9-2 with 52 seconds left.  Seriously, watch how he makes this happen.

2. Chance Marsteller v. Dylan Palacio - Southern Scuffle
Already told you about my preference for Palacio matches and this one lived up to the hype.  It was probably the most anticpated Scuffle match of that round and these two entertained til the final buzzer.  Also, big shout to Dylan for bringing the Peterson roll back in full effect. Not many guys using that one at the D1 level these days.

1. Tyler Cox v. Carson Kuhn - Wyoming v. Boise State Dual
I probably could have made a top 10 list of just Tyler Cox matches.  I'm sure he aged Coach Branch a few years with the number of shoot outs Cox got into throughout his time as a Cowboy.  Maybe it's just the recency effect but this is the one that stood out the most to me.  Cox fell down big early but stormed back late in front of a crazy Cowboy crowd!
