Bracket Breakdowns For Day 2

Saturday results here.

Sunday, August 30th
46kg - Dylan D'emilio vs. Horst Lehr (GER)
*Lehr finished 10th at the 2015 European Championships

The top half of the bracket is light on credentialed wrestlers and power countries. Rustambek Juraev (UZB) was a silver medalist at the Asian Championships. Azerbaijan representative Asgar Mammadliyev also brings medal credentials with him, but his was a bronze from the European Championships at 42kg.

D'emilio was drawn into the bottom half of the bracket and will have to scrap his way through a tough bracket to make the final. The bright side is Russia and Iran meet first round and the survivor could possibly run into European Champion Arsen Harutyunyan (ARM) in the quarterfinal. The European silver medalist is a possible match-up for D'emilio should he get through the first two rounds.

54kg - Daton Fix vs. Vazgen Tevanyan (ARM)
*Tevanyan was the European Champion in 2015

The bracket at 54kg also features high profile match-ups in the early rounds. The European silver medalist, Duyum (TUR), will need to win a first round bout to wrestle the Iranian. You would believe the winner coming out of that quarter is in the driver's seat.

The bottom brack features Daton Fix taking on the European Champion, Tevanyan (ARM), in round 1. Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia are all in that quarter as well. The bottom ins't finished yet, as the Asian Champion, Naveen (IND), could possibly come out of the other quarter final.

63kg - Jarod Verkleeren vs. Vasilii Diaconu (MDA)

63kg is a strange weight. Only Tornike Kvinikadze (GEO) has medal credentials from the European and Asian Championships. The rest of the medalist have been replaced on their country's roster. Verkleeren sits in the top half and most of the power countries up there are in the other quarter.

The bottom bracket is fairly balance top to bottom, as the power countries are evenly distributed.

76kg - Joe Grello vs. Ivan Stefanov (BUL)
*Stefanov was a bronze medalist at the 2015 European Championships

76kg is completely opposite of 63kg. Only the European and Asian Champions have been replaced on Russia and India's roster. Grello drew into the top bracket and hits Euro bronze medalist Stefanov (BUL).

The bottom bracket has the other five continental medalists and two of them meet round one. The two that meet are silver medalists from Georgia and Iran. Along with the medalists, the Champion replacements both drew into the bottom bracket for India and Russia.

100kg - Gable Steveson vs. Georgios Georgiadis (GRE)
*Georgiadis was 10th at the European Championships

The lopsided trend continues at 100kg. Two medalist from the continental championships are on the top side. Nasir Hussain (IND) won silver at the Asian Championships and Hovhannes Maghakyan (ARM) matched that accomplishment at Euros. Those two are separated and could meet in the semi-final.

The bottom bracket is tremendously competitive. Gable Steveson took out returning silver medalist, Jordan Wood, at the trials and now faces a slew of credentialed wrestlers in his half of the bracket. The three remaining Euro medalists are housed in Steveson's quarter and he could wrestle two of them on his way to the semi-final. Russia and Asian Champion Naeiim Hassanzadeh (IRI) could await in the Semi.
