Michigan State wrestling took to Twitter this morning to announce that head coach Tom Minkel would retire at the end of next season, and associate head coach Roger Chandler would become the head coach.

During his 25 year tenure in East Lansing, Minkel has produced 38 All-Americans, 13 Big Ten champions, and two NCAA champions. Minkel also guided the Spartans to 13 top 25 finishes at the NCAA Tournament.

Roger Chandler recently completed his 18th season with the Spartans. During his time at Michigan State Chandler has helped produce 22 All-Americans, and six Big Ten champions.

"I'm excited about the future of Michigan State wrestling," MSU Athletic Director Tom Hollis said in the schools official press release. " We're thankful for everything that Coach Minkel has given to Michigan State and we're looking forward to celebrating his exceptional career in the sport of wrestling during his final season. It's also a year that affords Roger Chandler an opportunity to prepare for a successful transition," Hollis continued.

A season ago John Rizqallah was the only Spartan to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, and Michigan State finished in last place with -0.5 points.
