FloWrestler of the Week: Team USA

It’s safe to say that the USA Freestyle and Greco teams conquered the Pan Am Championships in Chile.

Both teams brought home championships in their respective styles with the Greco team claiming three gold and two silver medals in the process and the Freestyle team taking home six gold and two silver medals.

Pat and Robby Smith each won titles at 71 and 130kg with Joe Rau snagging the 80kg title.
Pat Smith was the most dominant as he defeated each one of his opponents by technical fall. Rau followed up with a pair of tech. falls and a pin to win his title and Robby Smith recorded a pin, a tech. fall and 1-0 decision to win the 130kg title.

In his first Greco match Gabe Dean came up just short of perfection over the weekend with a second place finish. Dean had a 6-1 victory and a fall before being shutout in the final. Spenser Mango also took home the silver after being edged in the final 3-1.

Their overall efforts earned them the team title with 68 points to finish 10 points ahead of runner-up, Cuba.

Among the Freestyle champs were Andrew Hochstrasser (61kg), Jason Chamberlain (65kg), Dustin Schlatter (70kg), Tyler Caldwell (74kg), Dustin Kilgore (97kg) and Zach Rey (125).

Zach Sanders and Chris Perry had runner-up finishes at 57 and 86kg, respectively.

They finished with an astonishing 78 points to claim the team title which was 20 points ahead of Canada, which finished in second place.

The amazing performances by Team USA – both individual and collective – in both styles is enough to earn them the honor of FloWrestler(s) of the Week.
