Minnesota-Penn State is always big dual. This year's is highlight by big match-ups at 133, 157, 174, and 197 where each guy is ranked in the Top Ten in the country.

133: #1-Chris Dardanes (MINN) vs. #9-Jimmy Gulibon (PSU)
1st: Dardanes comes out phyiscal but Jimmy with a heavy head snap to a single. Ruled two, then waived off. While Gulibon is working for the takedown it's stalemated! Bum call. Back to neutral halfway through another Gulibon attack this time from the outside stuffed by Dardanes. Dardanes very busy working the head the rest of the period.

2nd: Chris starts underneath and sits off the whistle. Gulibon tries to chin back. Dardanes sits and turns in and is out after about :35. Both guys physical and taking legitimate attacks but can't get through the defense of the other.

3rd: Gulibon down. Gets to his feet and peels hands. He's out in :10. Jimmy taking a number of shots but Dardanes working the head well. Action goes OOB and we restart at :34. Jimmy in on a shot to the left but is stuck underneath. Dardanes with a crazy pace from front head and adds a leg attack and scores on the edge! Gulibon gets out on restart, but #1 remains #1! Great finish.

Result: Dardanes over Gulibon 3-2

141: #4-Chris Dardanes (MINN) vs. Kade Moss (PSU)
1st: Moss opens things up with a knee pull single. Real deep but gets a little off balance and Dardanes looks to be out of trouble. Moss continues working though and looks close to two. Dardanes passes a leg late and out of danger! Wild start!
Nick with a crisp attack and no where for Moss to go. 2TD. Nick cuts after just a few seconds riding. Super quick low single for Dardanes, stands and swats the head and converts. 4-1 and rides out the 1st.

2nd: Moss down. Dardanes tries to ride by Moss out in short time. Wrap arm by Moss stuffed. Dardanes works from front head and turns it into a leg attack near the edge. Moss gets hit for a stall for fleeing and on the restart, Dardanes immediately shoots and scores. 6-2. Moss peels hands and is out with :22. Nick keeps the pressure on and gets another one on the edge. 8-3

3rd: Dardanes down. Cut quickly. Moss nearly has a headlock but just circles for the 2. 9-5. Dardanes out right away 10-5. Nick being physical from out front and looking for angles. Finds it for another takedown. Cuts him looking for bonus at 12-6. Forward, forward for Dardanes and he forces a stall point. That'll do it with RT.

Result: Dardanes over Moss 14-6 w/RT

149: Jake Short (MINN) vs. #20-Zack Beitz (PSU)
1st: It'll be Short for the Gophers. Beitz fires off some half shots. Short looks for an angle off an elbow pass. Short controlling the center well. Pace slows but then Beitz gets in on a low single for a brief moment. It eventually gets stalemated. Another shot by Beitz but great hustle by short who gets the angle on him and has the 2! He rides out the last :10.

2nd: Short underneath. Excellent work both guys. Short to his feet, granby's. Beitz hustle and follows and the crowd applauds his recovery. OOB restart at 1:10. And with Short to his feet, Beitz pushes out of bounds for another restart at :49. Same exact situation and restart at :32. Short right to his feet and gains the escape at :26. 3-0 end 2.

3rd: Beitz takes down. To his feet then sits and switches to get the 1. 3-1. Beitz picks up the pace. Stall warning at 1:15 on Short. Beitz in on low single to the left. Gets it on the edge! And he does have RT at the moment. :44 to go.Short to his feet. Beitz tries to drop to an ankle but Short is out. Now Short in on a shot. Beitz looking for the "Jonesy" role through. Stalemated. Beitz on a the same shot. Good and clean. He gets it! And a turk for 3NF!

Result: Beitz over Short 9-4 w/RT

157: #1-Dylan Ness (MINN) vs. Cody Law (PSU)
1st: No Alton for the Lions. Ness comes out rather relaxed looking then blows through a low double. Looks crab ride which gives Law a brief scare. Double boots for Ness. Rides for a good long while. Stalemated with :53 left. Good hustle by Law off the whistle, but Ness follows and we get another restart with :32. NEss back to the boots and rides out the period with a 2-0 lead and an hour of RT.

2nd: Ness chooses bottom. He's out quick. Mostly patty cake through the first minute. Ness with a sloppy shot from real far away. Reshot by Law nearly scores, but Ness causes a scramble and he has 2 and a cradle locked up out of bounds and gets 2NF! He's amazing. 7-0. (Cael wanted a TD awarded in the middle of the flurry for Law but doesn't get a challenge for one reason or other.)

3rd: Law down. Ness coming way high and out to the side. Law gets dinged for stalling. Earns an escape with :35. Ness will get the major with 3:28 RT.

165: #16-Nick Wanzek (MINN) vs. Garrett Hammond (PSU)
1st: Hammond shot off the whistle but easily defended. Half shots and good defense through the first two minutes until Wanzek gets in on a good clean shot and finishes on the edge. Hammond out right away and goes upperbody but they go OOB. On the restart, Wanzek shoots a low single and Hammond kind of whiffs on a leg pass. Another takedown for Wanzek. Hammond out right away and there's some chippy-ness on the edge that the crowd enjoys. 4-2 Wanzek.

2nd: Wanzek down. Good hustle from bottom. Hammond follows. Big mat return. Wanzek pops right up and Hammond takes them OOB. Busy :30. Hammond gets a boot in on the restart working powerhalf and gets too high. Wanzek R2, Hammond E1. 6-2. Hammond speedy low single but Wanzek getting hips back. Hammond trying to suck it up but stalemated.

3rd: Hammond out with 1:40 left and trailing 6-4. He drops in on a right side wrap arm and he's in business. Wanzek sort of dives out of it and Hammond loses it. 1:00 to go. Wanzek then in, trying to isolate one leg, Hammond tries to leg pass but Wanzek's gonna ice this one. 8-4 with :20 and that's how it will it.

Result: Wanzek over Hammond 8-4

174: #3-Logan Storley (MINN) vs. #4-Matt Brown (PSU)
1st: Here we go! Love these classic 174 lb match-ups the last few years. PSU desperately needs this to stay in the dual. Brown double on the edge but OOB. Storley controlling the center and kind of falls into a double. Deep. Brown rolls out of it and out of bounds somehow. Weird. Storley was super deep. Good pace by Storley. He has Brown's back to the edge most of the first two minutes. Heavy snap by Brown. Scoreless 1st.

2nd: Brown out qiuckly. DEEP Hi-C, Storley funks. Brown still in position. Storley with an ankle preventing it. Brown gets height and gets it! Great sequence. Brown riding tough. Way out to the left side. Crowd wants a stall underneath. Storley bases up and Brown rolls them OOB. :17. With :03 left, stall call on Brown. 3-0 end 2.

3rd: Storley underneath. He's to his feet twice and twice big Brown mat returns. RT clock really climbing for Brown. Brown not working on any turns, but riding and following tough. OOB :53. Sit out, turn in and Storley is out but RT is locked.

Result: Brown over Storley 4-1 w/RT

184: #14-Brett Pfarr (MINN) vs. #18-Matt McCutcheon (PSU)
1st: Another swing match here. McCutcheon working the head early. Good lateral movement has him looking for a go-behind but Pfarr squares up. Nice Hi-C but Pfarr tangles him. McCutcheon rolls through and gets the 2. Pfarr out with 1:05. Pfarr drop sin on a low single trying to come out the back door. He does with a standing single, trips and takes a 3-2 lead. Rides out the rest of the period.

2nd: Pfarr starts down. Pfarr out quickly and McCutcheon shoots a pretty good Hi-C. Pfarr feeds him some hips and cradles him for 2 and OOB. 6-2. Halfway through 2nd. Over 1min RT for Pfarr who is working a cross-wrist tilt. He rides out the rest of the period.

3rd: Pfarr uses optional start and it's 6-3. Wrap arm right away scores for Pfarr and he cuts McCutcheon. Another quick shot but OOB. They're 8-4 with 1:30 left. Lefty Hi-C and a standing single for Pfarr scores. 10-4 and RT pretty much guaranteed. Optional start again. High pace by Pfarr. McCutcheon drops in on a leg but OOB. 

Result: Pfarr over McCutcheon 11-6 w/RT

197: #1-Scott Schiller (MINN) vs. #6-Morgan McIntosh (PSU)
1st: Cautious first minute by both guys until McIntosh picks an ankle and scores! Quick E1 by Schiller. Now a strong, crisp single by Schiller by McIntosh able to get his hips back and force a stalemate. McIntosh in on another low shot but on his belly. Ref let's it play out. McIntosh sucking it up but can't finish. Stalemate at :17. Now, they're going to review this. (Looked to me that Morgan may have had both ankles but no control. We'll see what they say.) WOW. Ruled a TD. Didn't see that coming. McIntosh on top with :30 and Schiller kicks lose. 4-2 end 1.

2nd: McIntosh takes bottom. Good motion as Mc gets the E1 off a change-over. SChiller snaps into fron head and spins behind, but Morgan turns the opposite way and is out of trouble! Wow. Shot, reshot and McIntosh scores another low single. Escape Schiller and another low single has Mc in business but stalemated with :30. We're at 7-3. Schiller doing good work from front head but runs out of time.

3rd: Schiller down. He's out early. Head-inside single this time for McIntosh but Schiller cuts and angle. McIntosh on his belly keeping that lock and gets a stalemate at 1:20. Collar tie for McIntosh slowingthings down. Now a low ankle for McIntosh again. Schiller draped over top and another stalemate. :20 to go. Here comes McIntosh again. Low single. Schiller kicks the head of McIntosh and the PSU crowd is pissed. Schiller out of danger, but McIntosh does it again, and keeps a slim PSU chance alive.

Result: McIntosh over Schiller 7-4

285: #18-Mike Kroells (MINN) vs. #6-Jimmy Lawson (PSU)
1st: Slow pace until Lawson gets rear standing on the edge 1 minute in. But they go OOB. Later, Lawson shoots a double on the edge. Kroells whizzers and they're side to side. Lawson slips it and gets the TD just before the buzzer.

2nd: Kroells takes down. Lawson riding a boot to on the left. Kroells tries to hip heist out but Lawson recovers. Kroells eventually gets to his feet and out after :40. Kroells shoots low, trying to comeup the middle. Jimmy trying to pass a leg and does but when he comes up to his feet, Kroells follows and has rear standing. Kroells mat return and Lawson granby's! No two! Beuatiful by Lawson, but Coach Eggum challenging the 'no reaction time' rule. Video review. And this should be interesting. Call upheld. No TD, and we go the the 3rd.

3rd: Lawson underneath and Kroells doing an excellent job of riding. 1:00 to go. Lawson to his feet and Kroells drives him out. Lawson granby's on the restart and has the 1. Wrap arm by Kroells blocked off and Lawson takes it.

Result: Lawson over Kroells 3-1

125: Ethan Lizak (MINN) vs. #8-Jordan Conaway (PSU)
1st: Wow. Lizak out of redshirt and wrestling in his home state. Fast pace early. Lizak working a russian then drop sin to a single on the edge but OOB. 2:06. Straight single for Conaway but they're working toward the edge. Conaway reaches for the far ankle and gets it at 1:37. Lizak out. He takes a have shot and Conaway reshoots and has two. Nearly drove him to his back and the crowd rose, but no nearfall. Lizak out. Conaway drives through a double for his third TD. 6-2 end 1.

2nd: Conaway starts underneath. Conaway rolls through a Lizak claw! Looked like he could have gotten swipes. Crab ride now for Lizak. Great work by him maintaining control. Conaway on his belly. PSU wants stalling on Lizak but we get a stalemate. Lizek pulls Conaway into that claw again and again has him completely broken down. He'll get the rideout.

3rd: Lizak takes top! Great jump by Conaway. He gets hip separation and is out. 7-2. DEEP double by Conaway score. 9-2. Cuts him, 9-3. Lizak has a RT point coming. Conaway in deep again on the edge but Lizak gets his hips up and almost has 2 of his own. OOB no score. Short time. Another Conaway shot scores and with both all tangled up he gets NF at the buzzer.

Final Dual Score: Minnesota 17-16
