"34 And Counting".
That's the name of the Oklahoma State message board referencing the Cowboys NCAA record for national titles, and their plan to keep accumulating them.
With the recent bumper crop of in-state talent (Oklahoma has nine on the Senior Big Board) and ability to also nab out of state blue chippers, "And Counting" seems more than wishful thinking.
The Cowboys already have commitments from #7-Kaid Brock (125/133), #9-Jo Jo Smith (149/157), #39-Boo Lewallen (141), #57-Lincoln Olson (133/141), and #93-Tristan Moran (141/149).
On Monday they added another mega recruit in #5-Nick Piccininni (125/133).
Heading to Stillwater all the way from Long Island, NY, Piccininni is a three-time State Champion currently ranked #1 in the country. He reached the finals of FloNationals the last two years, winning the title this April over Luke Pletcher (PA), who held the top spot at the time.
"The main factor in choosing Oklahoma State was my desire to add to their tradition," Piccininni said. "I love their style. The school is a great fit for me."
Courted by all the top programs, Piccininni says Penn State and Ohio State also made his final cut.
He cites his relationship with the coaches and current Cowboys as also playing a big role in his decision.
"I really enjoy talking to Coach Esposito. And I already feel like a part of the program because some of the wrestlers on the team check up on me often."
Congrats to Nick and the OK State program.
Here is Nick winning this year's FloNationals.
