When RaVaughn Perkins decked Bryce Saddoris in match 2 of the Greco World Team Trials, the spot was his.

Things have changed.

Bryce Saddoris has been officially named the 66kg representative for Team USA at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Following the World Team Trials, Perkins tested positive for a diuretic which lead to the lineup change.

RaVaughn explained the situation and offered his thoughts:

“I got popped for a water pill. I'm not going to beat myself up about it. I'll be back next year even stronger and quicker. Now I have time to just focus on my par terre.”

Saddoris had a strong Spring and Summer of wrestling falling to only Perkins at the US Open as well as the Trials Finals. Saddoris also tech-falled 2012 Olympian Ellis Coleman in the Trials semi-finals.

Saddoris brings a more conventional, bruising style and is skilled in all positions. RaVaughn presented unique problems to all competition with his ability to end the match at any time with his throwing ability.

USA Wrestlers testing positive for a banned substance has not been a complete rarity over the last year.  Dom Bradley and Obe Blanc tested positive for banned substances last year. Dom has since returned to competition, while Obe is still serving a 2 year ban.

Saddoris offered his thoughts on the opportunity:

"Being able to step into the role as our 66kg World Team Greco-Roman representative has been an honor. I continued to train hard after the World Team Trials so I was prepared to step up in a unique case such as mine. I feel privileged to represent the United States as well the
Marine Corps, my home state/town, all my coaches and my family. I look forward to the World Championships and working toward a medal."

Saddoris will wrestle in the World Championships on Saturday, September 13th in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
