Athing Mu, Grant Fisher And Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Head To LA Grand Prix

The Los Angeles Grand Prix is about to be a show.

The international gold-label event heads into Friday's and Saturday's action with world-class sprinters and athletes set to compete at Drake Stadium in Los Angeles.

Here are three of the biggest events to keep an eye on tomorrow at the LA Grand Prix.

Joshua Cheptegei Will Lead Fast Contingent Over 5,000m

Could you ask for a better 5,000m preview ahead of Paris? According to the meet website, the pace is destined to go under 13:00, opening the door for national records and the Olympic standard.

World-record holder Joshua Cheptegei and Ugandan teammate Jacob Kiplimo are both making their outdoor debuts, with Kiplimo coming into Friday's race the defending cross country world champion.

2024 USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix

In addition to Uganda's finest, American Grant Fisher is running his first race since winning The TEN in March, with 1,500m specialists Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker two other notable names in the mix.

Ethiopia's Selemon Barega, the reigning Olympic 10,000m champion and Canada's Moh Ahmed, the reigning Olympic 5k silver medalist are both entered as well.

McLaughlin-Levrone To Debut

A few weeks back, McLaughin-Levrone made her long-awaited debut in the 4x400m after missing much of the 2023 season due to injury.

This weekend, the 400mH world record holder is making her individual debut, dropping down to the 200m to face off against American favorites Gabby Thomas and Abby Steiner.

Thomas has already had a busy outdoor campaign, running 10.88 and 22.08 in the 100m/100m double at the Texas Relays at the end of March.

Similar to McLaughlin-Levrone, Steiner is also getting her feet back under her after an injury, but she's been busy since February, most recently winning the 200m at the Bermuda Grand Prix.

Olympian Jenna Prandini will also be one of the names to watch in the deep field.

Athing Mu & Mary Moraa Will Test Their Turnover In 400m

Last summer, Kenya's Mary Moora handed Athing Mu a shocking loss in the 800m final in Budapest, de-throning the queen of the 800m and handing her one a rare loss in the discipline.

However, Mu bounced back as strong as anyone could, beating both Moraa and Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson in the Diamond League Final, running 1:54.97 -- a new American record.

This Saturday, nearly exactly eight months after the pair last met, the two most recent world champions will see who's got the upper hand at this point during the season.

However, two-time world champion Marileidy Paulino, is the one to beat. She's only raced the 400m twice this season, running 50.89 and 50.08.
