Who's #1 2014: Nick's Picks

Mark Hall will beat Anthony Valencia at this year's Who's #1. God it feels good to be the first to go on record with that prediction.  I seriously feel like I'm the only one who's giving Mark Hall a shot.  Everyone I've talked to says Valencia's getting his hand raised this Saturday at the Snake Pit.  Why? Because he took Hall down at Freakshow 12 months ago with 7 seconds left in sudden victory overtime, on the edge of the mat while Hall was collapsing under a seriously banged up ankle?  So what.  Hall outwre...

If you listened to his press conference or post match interview from Who’s #1, you became very aware that Matt Kolodzik was the whole package. Charismatic and articulate, Kolodzik entertained reporters, then entertained the crowd in a 4-0 win over Ke-Shawn Hayes (MO) to become the nation’s new #1 wrestler at 138lbs. In the midst of that performance, many fans started to whisper, ‘I wonder where he is going to go (to college).’ The topic made its way to the twittersphere with speculation and false surety. Stanford, they ...

The match-ups for this year's Who's #1 event, perhaps the most competitive High School Dual Meet ever assembled, have been finalized. It all goes down October 18th, at historic Grace Hall on the campus of Lehigh University. The festivities kick off at 6PM with FlipsWres...

Overflo: Public vs. Private Schools in NJ

Where Willie Messed Up: Quentin Wright would have been a good selection as "Wrestling's Derek Jeter". What's Trending: It's ranking season. The Thesis: Former NJ Star Ledger writer, Joe Kania joins Willie in discussing the raging debate in The Garden State over Public vs. Private schools and the decision by one of its most prominent wrestling coaches.

Alum Millhof Makes His WNO Picks

Last night, two-time Super 32 champ, Ryan Millhof tweeted this... He's a favorite of ours, impressing us not only with his wrestling last year at Who's #1, but also with his maturity and humbleness. I mean, the kid defied everyone by beating Fargo Champ Jered Cortez via a super sick duck. So we said, 'hey go for it.' Unfortunately, his picks were the same as Nick's, so of course he's doomed. Here's what Ryan had to say... WNO Picks: 106: Olivia's > Tesdale Millhof: I think the aggressiveness of Olivas can overcome Teasdale. 150: Early > Smith M...

By Jason Bryant Manheim, Pennsylvania – After representing the U.S. on two Junior World Teams in 2012 and 2013, returning NCAA champion and 2013 Junior World silver medalist Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State is set for his next challenge – a new weight class. Dieringer, a two-time All-American and the 157-pound NCAA Division I champion in 2014, will move up to 165 pounds this season and he’ll get tested right away with a match against two-time All-American Nick Sulzer of Virginia at the 2014 NWCA All-Star Classic presented by t...

Lehigh University: The Place to be for WNO!

It’s the greatest high school dual of all time and it’s taking place in one of wrestling’s most unique and iconic venues. It’s my first time at Grace Hall or Lehigh University for that matter. And it's across the board spectacular. Nevermind the fact we're seemingly smack dab in the middle of a picturesque Fall postcard from the Lehigh Valley. The venue is an amazing combination of the latest and greatest technologies combined with tons of reminders of Lehigh’s rich wrestling facility. When Who’s #1 gets goin...

Often times we get bogged down in the “Who’s going to win it all” discussion.  I’m interested in showing a little more depth in this piece focusing more on all the teams in the mix for a trophy. The number of teams that are truly in the mix for a trophy may surprise you. I poured through the brackets for the last 10 years and found a common thread for what it typically takes to earn a top 4 finish. I focused only on the 3 and 4 spots. For the last 10 NCAA’s earning 3rd place had an average of 4.6 All Americans...
