If you needed a freestyle fix this weekend, the Bill Farrell International had you covered with all you could handle. There was a ton of action on every mat with the some of the world’s biggest hammers going at it for two straight days at Hofstra Univerisity. And then there was Richard Perry who gave you a little something extra each time he stepped on to the mat. Perry, out of NYAC, took home the 86kg men’s freestyle title with a 5-4 win over Deron Winn in the finals. En route to his title, he defeated Andrew Sorenson, Austin Trotm...

The Big Red got a Big verbal commitment today. Chaz Tucker, the #4 132 in the country will be heading to Cornell next year. Chaz comes in as the #63 Senior on the Flo Big Board. Tucker, a Senior at Blair Academy has faced a steady diet of the country’s toughest competition. Chaz is a Prep National Champion as well as a Fargo runner up. Tucker is the first top 100 commitment in this years class for Cornell. Chaz has wins over AC Headlee, Will Koll and Jaydin Clayton. He should slot nicely for the Big Red at 133 pounds in the next few years...

Bill Farrell International Preview

The Bill Farrell Invitational (formerly the NYAC) has been a staple for over 50 years. The tournament will see some changes though as it is now going to be called the Bill Farrell International Open, and will now be held at Hofstra University's Mack Arena. The name change is in honor of the late NYAC Wrestling Chairman, and 1972 Olympic Head Coach Bill Farrell.  57kg Sam Hazewinkel- Like nearly every tournament that he enters, Haze is the class of the field here. The last time we saw him Haze was only in the World Team Trial finals i...

Fi: Cael's Dilemma

I don’t envy Cael Sanderson’s predicament for this year. On the heels of his 4th team title the PSU head man has a tough choice: Go for it, or hold off for a year. Is it possible to contend and win a title each and every year at the D1 level? I’m not sure that it is anymore. The D1 landscape is changing.  Training is improving and good wrestlers can be found everywhere. Gone are the days of Gable when winning every single year was expected and reasonable. I concede that the use of the word "dilemma" may be a bit hyperboli...

4/7/2015 125 Notes:   I’m including this note in every set of rankings because I think it’s important that people read this to get my perspective. As you know I always have put a premium on looking at the whole picture. While I give tremendous weight to NCAA’s I’ll never be completely beholden to them. I’m not taking away anyone’s All-American medal, nor am I implying that they aren’t deserving of the placement they achieved. I’m simply looking at all the information I have and am giving it ...
