THE BIG STORIES Fredy Stroker joined elite company by winning his fourth KC Stampede title. The only other wrestler to accomplish that feat is NCAA All American, Alan Waters. In the semifinals, Dayton Racer got some redemption on Thomas Bullard, who beat him in the Super 32 finals earlier this year. Racer was then defeated by Jo Jo Smith in the finals. On the team side, Archer (GA) won the title for the second straight year. That was expected. What wasn't expected was Neosho (MO) taking Runner-Up honors ahead of nationally ranked Stillwater (O...

Annually one of the toughest in-season tournaments in the country, the Beast of the East kicks off for the 22nd time this weekend.  The prevailing headline is Nick Suriano's quest to win his third title and maintain pace to capture four with only one other wrestler in tournament history: Mark Grey (Blair, 2008-2011). Suriano leads #15 Bergen Catholic and the rest of New Jersey in what is the opening weekend for the Garden State.  For #2 Blair Academy (a private school in New Jersey) it is their second weekend of action as they come of...

History has been made, but it was not easy. First, it was David Taylor, now it’s Zahid Valencia. The top-ranked senior of St. John Bosco became the second wrestler in history to win the Walsh Ironman tournament four times since its inception in 1994. He followed up with a major decision over Marmion’s 18th-ranked Nathan Traxler and a 7-3 decision over 3rd-ranked Xavier Montalvo in the semifinals. Last, ...
