D1 News And Notes: Week Two
Here at FloWrestling, we try to hit you over the head with important happenings from around the world of wrestling. Right now, it's Division I season, so you can expect to see a steady stream of our weekly features such as The Dirt, Wrestler of the Week, Upsets of the Week, and Stock Report on the site.

But sometimes, so many things happen that we can't fit them all into just a few articles. So here are a few important matches you may have missed.

141: Yianni Diakomihalis (Cornell) 12-7 over Nick Lee (Penn St.)

The Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open semis saw one of the most highly anticipated matchups involving two true freshmen in quite some time. The two-time world champ won the takedown battle 4-0 and earned riding time on Lee. Diakomihalis' win this weekend was juuussttt enough to get him ranked.

184: Ryan Preisch (Lehigh) 4-2SV over Zack Zavatsky (Virginia Tech)

One of the earliest ranking conundrums got settled the old-fashioned way. See how Preisch did it below.

285: Adam Coon (Michigan) 5-2 over Tanner Hall (Arizona St.)

While I'm sure most people expected Coon to win, there had to be some uncertainty given that he hadn't wrestled a folkstyle match since March 2016.

133: Ian Parker (Iowa St.) 7-5 over Austin DeSanto (Drexel)

This was another battle of freshmen, though Parker had the benefit of a redshirt. There was a question about whether Parker or Simmons would start for the Cyclones and also if the Dragons would roll out DeSanto right away. Expect these two to threaten to make deep runs at the national tournament in Cleveland this March.

174: Ethan Ramos (UNC) 13-8 over Jacobe Smith (OK State)

I'm not sure what to make of Ramos or Smith after this weekend, but this one was interesting to watch.

174: Taylor Lujan (UNI) 10-8SV over Lucas Lovvorn (Baker)

Woah. I had to look up both Baker and Lucas Lovvorn after this one. This certainly would have made upsets of the week had Lovvorn gotten the takedown in overtime.

174: Yoanse Mejias (Oklahoma) 7-3 over Jordan Pagano (Rutgers)

After starting the year ranked, Pagano took not one but two tough losses this weekend.

174: Will Schany (Virginia) 6-5 over Jordan Pagano (Rutgers)

This was the other loss for Pagano. Already facing an injury-riddled season for Anthony Ashnault, Rutgers coach Scott Goodale and staff might need to get the Pagano ship righted before they get too deep into the season.

197: Danny Chaid (UNC) 13-9 over Andrew Marsden (OK State)

When we did FRL, we knew this one was appointment viewing. It didn't disappoint.

125: Nicky Suriano (Rutgers) 4-2 over Christian Moody (Oklahoma)

This was a nice performance from Moody. It wasn't an upset or a win, but Moody's effort was enough to possibly take notice of last year's NCAA qualifier as a man who could be making a jump this year.

184: Nick Gravina (Rutgers) 4-2 over Matt Waddell (Oklahoma)

This result was notable because Waddell seems to be the first from Oklahoma's strong 2017 recruiting class to have his redshirt pulled.

165: Chandler Rogers (Okie St) 9-4 over Clay Lautt (UNC)

Coleman Scott and his staff have been raving about their freshmen. Even though Lautt lost, it seems to be a clear signal that the Tar Heels don't care about age -- they just want to roll out the best team.
