46kg Semis - Kurt McHenry vs Magomed Abdurakhmanov, RUS

1st period: Remember, UWW Cadet periods are only two minutes long. Early attention against the Russian. Passivity at the 36 second mark. To this point, McHenry was wins of 10-0, 18-8 and 4-2. Russia on the clock now, but Kurt tries to hit an elbow control duck. Russia fights out of the quadpod but clock expires to make it 1-0. Wow, Houdini act from Abdurakhmanov. McHenry was chasing ankles but looks like it get white paddled as time ran out.

2nd period: Another shot from McHenry, no score but Russia hit again for passivity and on the clock. But an immediate throwby makes it 3-0 McHenry, 1:10 left. Drag into a takedown for Russia to make it 3-2, ankle lace attempt but no points. Kurt pushed back into the zone, but drops to a knee, overhooks and flattens Russia for a two point exposure on the edge. Got dicey there at the end, McHenry tries to cartwheel, but gets taken down. Russia can't finish the the gut. Kurt McDirt aka Kurt McNasty is back in the world finals! He will have Giorgi Gegelashvili (Georgia).

We're rooting for Iran in the 54kg semis as a win would pull Robert Howard back into tomorrow's repechage. And he does it! Iran is now in third ahead of Azerbaijan.

63kg Semis - Jacori Teemer vs Kenshin Ito, Japan

1st period: No engagement in the first 30 seconds. Ito was last year's Asian champ at 58kg. Single attempt by Japan, Teemer sprawls and squares up. Ito on the shot clock now. Ito in on the shot, Teemer immediately goes crackdown and trying to high leg out. Scramble ends, 1-0 after the shot clock expires. That's how the period will end. Ito with a pair of 4-0 victories to get here, Teemer with a pin in 3:53, 11-10 win and 5-3 win to make the semis.

2nd period: Passivity gainst Teemer now. Throwby attempt for Teemer cleared out. Another single for Ito, into a whizzer, but ends with a stepout on the edge. Teemer trailing on criteria, locked up in a collar tie now. Teemer throwby, into a quad pod. Ito switches out and into a crackdown. Crotchlock makes it 3-1, Teemer's stepout gets white paddled on a straight push call. 27 seconds, Teemer needs a 2. Jacori gets two stepouts, but trails on criteria with 2 seconds to go. OH MY GOODNESS HE GOES HIGH FLYER FOR 4 AT THE BUZZER!! Challenge by Japan, not sure how long this will take. Unfortunately, time was out. Teemer will wrestle for bronze

76kg Semis - Aaron Brooks vs Meysam Zaree, Iran

1st period: Zaree was the Asian championships runner-up earlier this year. Brooks has looked great all day, with a 14-2 tech, pin and 9-3 decision. Zaree comes in with a 2-1 win, 10-0 tech and 10-3 decision to make these semis. Brooks will be in red with Kevin Jackson and Sean Bormet in his corner. Wow, yet again Brooks hits a Jonesy tilt. He's hit it multiple times today, and up 2-0 now. Brooks double, fought off by Zaree, but a second double and it's 4-0 now not even a minute in. Quick shot and takedown, but Iran's head was out so no points on the lace. Zaree goes low to high, gets the leg up on the shoulder. Throws Brooks out to make it 6-1. Tapped the head, cross ankle single and a 10-1 lead after the lace. Anke pick finishes it off! The 12-1 win and the Fargo champ from Maryland is in the finals! For the second time this year, USA has had an age level finalist from a guy who didn't win his trials. Ankle picks galore for the young man headed to the OTC after this year. He will wrestle Arsamag Khostikoev (Russia) in the finals.

100kg Semis - Greg Kerkvliet vs Zyyamuhamm Saparov, Turkmenistan

1st period: Single leg right away and takedown 2-0 USA. Into quadpod and another takedown. Nice ankle pick, pulled it up and 6-0, 8-0 after the turn. First takedown by Saparov now. 8-2 at the break, Kevin Jackson and Troy Nickerson in his corner.

2nd period: Kerkvliet using his height well to snap and reach. Matador on the edge, but they work back in to the center. Dropped in on ankle, TKM tries a chest wrap, but Kerkvliet finishes it, 10-2. Wow, quick shot to finish it. 12-2 tech, Kerkvilet dominates his way into the finals. USA goes 3-for-4 in the semis.

42kg Bronze - Cole Skinner vs Kaisei Tanabe, Japan

1st period: Two points on the line here in the team race. Both of these guys lost to finalist Alihasan Amirli of Azerbaijan. Skinner is from Ohio. Skinner in on two shots early, but both fought off by Tanabe. Restart 33 seconds in. USA keeping with the Jonesy tilts, but they go 2+2. Skinner leading on last point scored, Japan fights off his back. Good head hands defense by both guys. Tanabe runs him out for a 3-2 lead at the break. Kevin Jackson and Lee Pritts in Skinner's corner.

2nd period: Knee tap for Japan and it's 5-2 Tanabe. Shoots Skinner off and 6-2 now. Another stepout and this one might be out of reach. Late takedown makes it 7-4. A fifth place finish for Cole Skinner. No change in the team score, but max scores for the day now favor Russia by a point.

At 50kg, Julian Tagg finished in 7th place. American fans should be rooting for Mahir Mammadzada of Azerbaijan in the finals to keep us tied with Russia. Azerbaijan leads 3-2 at the break. Bad break for USA. Azerbaijan was leading 7-4 but got whipped over in the final five seconds. Russia takes a 59-58 lead in the team race as we head to the 42kg medal ceremony.

There are no Russians or Americans involved in the 58kg medal matches. Jordan Decatur scored 0 points for USA and Aleksandr Sabanov scored one for Russia.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the abbreviated morning session will center around 54kg. If Imam Ganishov beats Madalin Baranga of Romania, then Russia will get six team points and wrestle for a bronze medal. On the opposite side, Robert Howard will have to beat Damirbek Maqsudov (Tajikistan) and Vladyslav Ostapenko (Ukraine) to get his six points and wrestle for bronze.

We are rooting for Turkey and USA in the 69kg medal matches. Umur Aybey will try to stem the tide and keep Soslanbek Budaev from expanding Russia's lead. Nice, takedown and turn for Turkey to take a 4-0 lead. Exchange on the edge, looks like time was out. Scratch that, Russia got one for the stepout. Turkey gives up the takedown but fights off the lace, 4-3. Russia runs through a single leg to make it 5-4. Russia wins, very bad for the team race.

69kg GOLD - Will Lewan vs Daud Ibragimov, Azerbaijan

1st period: Ibragimov will be in red. He won his three matches by scores of 7-0, 12-2 and 4-1 to make the finals. Lewan had four matches yesterday: 6-0, 6-0, 10-4 and 6-2 wins. Lewan with a snap and underhook right away. Stalemate at 0:25. Hard lefty underhook and passive called against AZE. Lewan tries another snap, AZE on the clock now. These two are collar tying hard, Ibragimov moving Lewan into the zone. Lewan circles back in and forces the stepout. Great defense by Lewan. Was off balance, but got an overhook and hipped over, squared up. Double leg attempt and no points. 1-0 at the break in favor of USA.

2nd period: Lot of movement in the first 10 seconds, but back to the slow collar tie. Passive called against Lewan after a sprawl. Lefty underhook and snap or Lewan. Stalemate at 2:57, Lewan on the clock now. This would give AZE the lead on criteria. Lewan has 20 seconds to score. CLUTCHBURGER! Lewan throws in a leg in over top with four seconds left and Izzy Martinez hands him the Stars and Stripes to run around the mat! Another World CHAMP FOR USA!!!!

85kg Bronze - Gavin Hoffman vs Sandeep Mann, India

1st period: Snatch single to a stepout and Hoffman leads 1-0 22 seconds in. India got in but Hoffman fights off a shot. A minute in and a couple more shots but no points from Hoffman. Double unders for India and a passive gets called against Hoffman. He shoots right away and again forces a stepout. India responds with a quick takedown on the edge to lead 2-2 on criteria. Back to double unders and Hoffman trying to hold ground. Period will end 2-2. Bormet and Jackson in Hoffman's corner.

2nd period: Right back to double unders for India. Hoffman called for passive and is on the clock. Shoots right away and again, but fought off. Ducks under, forces the stepout, 3-2 with 1:22 to go. Double unders to front head for India and Hoffman clears out. Continuing to shoot, but Hoffman limp arms out of the whizzer for the 5-2 lead. Hoffman shoots again, killing time. Shoots again, and that should do it. Bronze medal for Gavin Hoffman! See you in the Snake Pit in a month for Who's Number One!

Last match of the night. Need Iran to beat Russia. Iran leads 1-0 after a shot clock point. Russia leads 1-1 now after a shot clock point. Russia wins. They lead 62-61 heading into tomorrow.
