Day Two 2017 World Championships Bracket Reaction

The second day of the 2017 World Championships will feature the USA's final four Greco-Roman wrestlers. Below is a breakdown of the brackets for Ildar Hafizov (59kg), Ellis Coleman (66kg), Cheney Haight (80kg), and Robby Smith (130kg) heading into Tuesday's matches in Paris.

Day one recap

59kg

Opening Match - Ildar Hafizov starts his his first world championships with Team USA against Vazgen Khatchatryan (ARM), who finished in fifth place at Junior Worlds in 2012. Should Hafizov win, waiting for him in the second round will be world No. 3 Kenichiro Fumita, the Asian champ earlier this year.

His Side - Hafizov is on the top side with Olympic bronze medalist Andre-Stig Berge (NOR). Before that though, Hafizov could have to go through 2015 Euro Games champ Stepan Maryanyan (RUS).

Opening Match - Ellis Coleman starts off with a somewhat favorable draw, landing Diego Ribeiro Romanelli (BRA), whose most notable accomplishment is a bronze medal at the 2012 South American championships. In the second round, he could hit either Donior Islamov (MDA) or Mate Nemes (SRB). Islamov was Euro bronze last year down at 59kg and was bronze at the 2014 University World Championships at this weight. Nemes was the U23 Euro bronze a year ago.

His Side - Landing on the top half means he could see top seed Artem Surkov, a 2015 world bronze medalist from Russia. If not Surkov, Coleman would see world No. 10 Elmurat Tasmuradov (UZB), a bronze medalist last year in Rio up a weight.

80kg

Opening Match - Cheney Haight begins with No. 11 Laslo Szabo, a bronze medalist from last year's non-Olympic worlds in Budapest.

His Side - Both Roman Vlasov and Mark Madsen are on this bottom half. Losing to one of them could mean not making repechage if they meet in the semis. Vlasov is one of the greatest and most exciting Greco wrestlers in the past decade. He is now up a weight and looking to continue his reign of dominance, which includes two Olympic gold medals and two world titles. Madsen meanwhile is just trying to get over the hump, as he has FIVE silver medals on his resume.

130kg

Robby Smith has an excellent draw, opening up with Tamas Soos (SVK), who pulled double duty at U23 Euros and competed in both styles. In the second round, Smith would see the winner of either Yasmani Acosta Fernandez (CHI) or Min-Seok Kim (KOR). Acosta was formerly a Cuban national team member who has since transferred to Chile. Going back to 2011, he beat Smith at the Pan Am championships. Kim was bronze at this year's Asian championships.
