Brandon Whitman of Michigan is set to battle Joel Shapiro of Iowa in top five matchup at 195lbs at Night of Conflict 3 in Iowa City, Iowa, on October 13.

One year ago, Shapiro was one of the fastest-rising juniors in Iowa after making the podium at Fargo and capping off an undefeated regular season by winning his first state title at West Des Moines Valley High School. Fast forward to today and Shapiro has established himself as one of the top wrestlers at his weight -- No. 4 at 195 pounds.

Currently the top verbal commitment in Kevin Dresser's first recruiting class at Iowa State, Shapiro finished third at this year's Cadet World Team Trials, with his loss coming to No. 2 Ryan Karoly, and most recently placed seventh at Fargo.

Coming in from Michigan is the third-ranked Whitman, who has committed to wrestle at the next level at North Carolina. A three-time state champion, Whitman was recently third in both styles at Fargo with his two losses coming to graduated seniors: Oklahoma commit Jake Woodley and Iowa commit Jacob Warner. Whitman also picked up a huge 13-2 win over Pennsylvania's Trent Hidlay at the Junior National Duals in June. Hidlay is currently ranked No. 2 at 170lb.

This will also be a rematch from Fargo, where Whitman beat Shapiro 11-0 in the freestyle consolation quarterfinals. You can watch that match above.

Shapiro is making his second Night of Conflict appearance after debuting against Illinois prep Danny Braunagel last fall. In that match, Shapiro came out on top 8-4. At the time Shapiro was ranked No. 15 and Braunagel was ranked No. 17.
