Wittlake Injured, Brooks To Wrestle At Cadet Worlds

Sources have confirmed to FloWrestling that three-time Fargo champion Aaron Brooks will replace cadet world bronze medalist Travis Wittlake at the UWW Cadet World Championships in Athens on September 4-10.

Wittlake, the top-ranked wrestler at 182lb, beat Brooks two matches to none at the 76kg cadet team trials in Akron on June 4. Wittlake took the first match in a 4-2 slugfest before pouring it on in a 10-0 tech fall in the second match.

The first match of that series is featured below.

Wittlake apparently injured his ankle wrestling at the Junior National Duals in late June, when he was competing for Team Oregon. The No. 5-ranked wrestler on the 2018 Big Board has committed to Penn State.

Taking Wittlake's place on Team USA's cadet freestyle squad will be Brooks, the No. 17-ranked wrestler on the Big Board who recently announced his intention to spend a year at the Olympic Training Center after completing high school. Brooks is currently on top of the 170lb rankings.
