What A Crazy Day In Fargo

The Junior men's freestyle semis provided us one of the craziest days in Fargo we can remember.

What A Crazy Day In Fargo
It was an absolutely nutty day of wrestling in the Fargodome on Monday. The craziness crested in the junior men's freestyle semifinals with some of the best freestyle matches we've seen all year.

Let's take you through all the insanity that happened late in the day. Remember, complete brackets and archived matches can be found on FloArena.

Eric Guerrero To Oklahoma RTC

Plot twist, the craziest happening of the day didn't even involve Fargo. Former Oklahoma State assistant will be moving from Stillwater, OK, to Norman to take over the Oklahoma RTC.

#1 Sammy Sasso Is Wrestling For 5th/6th

When the new weight class rankings came out last week, it became obvious that every highly ranked kid at 145 had blemishes on his resume and that the top spot would be settled in Fargo. FloNats champ Sammy Sasso came in No. 1 but will be wrestling for fifth after losing back-to-back matches to Anthony Artalona and Brayton Lee.

160 Semis Were Magical

You'd think a No. 1 versus No. 1 match would top the bill, but that's just how crazy these semis were on Monday. Defending champ Jake Allar hadn't given up a point heading into the semis. He looked like he had his sixth straight tech (dating back to last year's finals) until the Wisconsin coaches challenged a headlock, and Tyler Dow stormed back to ultimately win. Simultaneously, right next door, David Carr avenged his UWW Juniors loss to Joe Lee in a back-and-forth affair with several lead changes.

Scoring Controversy in Pat Mckee vs. Rayvon Foley

I'm not sure any of Monday's matches caused as many people to yell from the stands at the refs. There were 36 points on the board, and some of you will probably think there should have been a few more. Others will probably think there should have been a few less. Either way, it's worth re-watching.

Brandon Kaylor Makes The Finals At Long Last

One state that often gets forgotten during the regular folkstyle season for high school is Washington, and then at least one comes to Fargo like a bat out of hell. This year's breakout performer is Brandon Kaylor, who has placed here many times before but has never made the finals. Check out his 15-12 barn-burner win over Aden Reeves.
