Tervel Embraces New Coaching Role At Wabash Clinic

The Wabash Camp in Crawfordsville, Indiana is one of the best in the country. Legendary heavyweight and Ohio State assistant coach Tervel Dlagnev was there, sharing his wisdom and teaching his favorite techniques.

Former NCAA DII national champion Tervel Dlagnev retired from international competition after a legendary career and one final Olympic run in 2016. Tervel came up just short in Rio, falling in the bronze medal match, but had already found a new home at Ohio State by then, having joined head coach Tom Ryan's staff in June of 2016.

Tervel was in Crawfordsville, Indiana at Wabash College for a star studded clinic that also including John Smith and Terry Brands

Still convalescing from an ailing back that plagued him during his Olympic matches, Tervel said his health continues to improve and is on his way to feeling 100% again.

Tervel also described how coaching compares to competing, noting that the high and lows of coaching are less severe as day-to-day responsibilities become more important than individual results. In Tervel put it, "You never feel like you're done as a coach."


Some of techniques Tervel covered include his favorite ankle pick series from an over-tie.
