Gilman Gears Up For World Team Trials
Thomas Gilman dominated the field at the 125lb division for the majority of the NCAA season. Really, all but one match.

Gilman dropped his NCAA semifinal bout to eventual champion Darian Cruz of Lehigh and then wrestled back to finish 3rd. It wasn't long after that 3rd place match that Gilman had already started looking ahead to the World Team Trials.

That night Thomas Gilman and his coaches made the decision to forego wrestling in the US Open to give him time to heal, with the plan to be for Thomas to wrestle and qualify for the Trials at the Last Chance Qualifier. And that's just what he did.

When asked about transitioning to freestyle after a season of folkstyle, Gilman said, "Wrestling is wrestling", though he said the biggest adjustments will need to be made for the par terre position.

We moved on to the topic of Mark Perry coming to Iowa. It is an exciting to have someone like Mark to work with. Gilman added that the addition of Mark Perry will not be a one way street where Perry will be teaching while Gilman and are others learning, but rather both sides will be sharing and learning from each other.

Finally, we talked about the field at 57kg for the upcoming World Team Trials on June 10 in Lincoln, NE, which will be streaming LIVE on FloWrestling and you will be able to follow along with brackets on FloArena.

Gilman feels confident coming into the event and is very familiar with most everyone in the bracket. He reminds us that, though he and Nathan Tomasello have met several times, Gilman owns victories in all but one of those matches. He is also 2-0 against Nahshon Garrett.

As for Tony Ramos, Gilman said that they have trained together a lot from their time as teammates through Tony's time at Iowa post collegiately. He said, "I know how to freaking beat him, and he knows that."
