It's the matchup we've waited two years for, and the first step is complete: Kyle Dake and Jordan Burroughs have officially registered for the 2017 U.S. Open.

For the first time since 2011, Jordan Burroughs does not have an automatic bye to the World Team Trials finals. So while he has already qualified for the 2017 WTT in Lincoln, Nebraska, he's still fighting to get the berth in the finals.

Dake has not yet qualified for the trials, which are June 9th and 10th, but is looking to do much more than just qualify. Anyone who wins their weight next weekend in Vegas, aside from 61kg and 97kg, will get to sit in the finals and await the winner of the trials challenge tournament.

The four-time NCAA champ has been very outspoken about the automatic bye for world medalists from the previous year, including this famous tweet just a few weeks before the 2015 trials. The hype will only grow as next Saturday draws closer, and for good reason. The Cornell grad is one of the few wrestlers domestically to challenge the 2012 Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champ.

They've wrestled four matches, with all four coming in Trials finals. Of those four, one from 2013 went into overtime, and another from 2015 was a 6-3 match which Dake was leading when he attempted to throw Burroughs out of bounds.
