Listen to Willie and CP give LIVE play-by-play of the championship rounds all weekend on FloWrestling Radio Live.

The quarterfinals are going to be on the center mats, which are 3, 4, 5 and 6. The consolation will be wrestled on the outside mats, which are 1, 2, 7 and 8. We'll focus our updates on the quarterfinals and catch up with the big wrestleback news when we can.

Four unseeded wrestlers made it to the quarterfinals. A 15 seed and a 14 seed also made it this far. We'll soon see if they can continue their Cinderella runs.

125

Seeds making it to the quarters in the 125 bracket are the numbers 1 & 8, the 12 & 4, the 14 & 6, and the 10 & 2.

Gilman and Piccininni in a very crucial match for the team race. A win by Pich will go a long away to keeping the Cowboys championship hopes alive, and at the same time putting a huge damper on Iowa's. Gilman jumps out to a 2-0 lead, and barely avoid giving up a reversal. Still 2-0. Pich with a tilt! Two big back points for the Cowboy! Tie ball game. Gilman with a pancake! And HE gets swipes! 7-3 in favor of Gilman now. And Gilman has a half and he bulls Pich over. A PIN! The crowd explodes, Iowa fans have come out in full force. Gilman is into the semis.

SIUE's Freddie Rodriguez is trying to take advantage of PSU's Suriano's post bracket drawing scratch and punch a ticket to the semi's for the Cougars and the Southern Conference. He's got his work cut out for him as he's facing no. 6 Ethan Lizak of Minnesota. Lizak already with a takedown, and he has one of the most smothering top games in the sport. Lizak, punishing on top, extends his lead to 9-0. Lizak will win with a dominating 15-0 tech. Gophers have the first semifinalists in the tournament.

Lehigh's Darian Cruz has the no. 12 Sean Fausz of NC State, who upset no. 5 Tim Lambert of Nebraska to get here. Cruz with a 4-0 lead in the second period. Cruz leading 4-2 with riding time basically locked up. They're on their feet in the third. Cruz fends off Fausz's late attacks and moves on. The Mountain Hawks get a semifinalist and All-American.

No. 2 Joey Dance tied with no. 10 Jack Mueller. Still 0-0 in the third. Riding time not a factor. Hokies vs Wahoos, no love lost between these two programs. We're now in sudden victory and there's the two! Quick spin around! Mueller knocks off Dance! Big upset in the battle for the Commonwealth of Virginia!

Pretty intense first set of quarterfinal matches, you guys.

FULL RESULTS
125 Thomas Gilman (Iowa) F Nicholas Piccininni (Oklahoma St.), 6:27
125 Darian Cruz (Lehigh) DEC Sean Fausz (North Carolina St.), 5-2
125 Ethan Lizak (Minnesota) TF Freddie Rodriguez (Siue), 15-0 6:54
125 Jack Mueller (Virginia) DEC Joey Dance (Virginia Tech), 4-2 SV

133

All chalk at 133, except for Buffalo's Lantry getting by Pitt's Forys. Lantry is the no. 11 seed. Ohio State, Iowa and Oklahoma State all have wrestlers in this round.

SD State's Seth Gross has Nebraska's Eric Montoya in trouble and on his back early! Montoya is off his back and in neutral now but in a huge hole, down 6-1. Gross pouring it on with more swipes, 10-1 lead now. Gross wins and will be guaranteed All-American Status, the first for the Jackrabbits since 1988 (if I heard the dulcet tones of PA announcer Jason Bryant correctly). The Scottrade Center applauds this impressive achievement by Gross and head coach Chris Bono.

Quick TD then reverse in the Clark vs Micic match. Iowa's Clark in the top position against Michigan's no. 5 seed. Clark in the lead now 5-3, he's riding and trying to finish it off in the third period. Micic escapes but Clark also has RT locked up. Clark keeps the pressure on and is in on a shot when time expires. The Hawkeye fans let Clark hear it. He will advance to the semifinals.

OK State's Brock up two takedowns to one escape, he leads Buffalo's Lantry 4-1 after the first. Brock extends his lead, it's 7-3. Kaid Brock with a workmanlike performance, he will be on the podium for the Cowboys.

Tomasello and Richards are tied going into the second period. Ohio State would like bonus points for their team trophy aspirations. Nato looking so strong. He hammers Richards, though its only a 3-1 final score. The Buckeyes have their first semifinalist of the tournament!

The 1, 2, 3 and 4 seeds all advance, setting up some dynamite matches. All Big Ten with Clark and Nato, and all Big 12 with Gross and Brock.

FULL RESULTS
133 Nathan Tomasello (Ohio St.) DEC Zane Richards (Illinois), 3-1
133 Cory Clark (Iowa) DEC Stevan Micic (Michigan), 6-4
133 Kaid Brock (Oklahoma St.) DEC Bryan Lantry (Buffalo), 7-3
133 Seth Gross (South Dakota St.) MD Eric Montoya (Nebraska), 11-1

141

Our match ups in the quarters by seeds are 1 v 8, 5 v 4, 14 v 6, and 10 v 2.

Missouri's Jaydin Eierman, the subject of our banner picture for this article, has the returning champ, Dean Heil of OK State. Heil going to work, with 2 TDs, to take a 4-1 lead. Heil wins. Sorry for missing the details, our other quarterfinals matches distracted me! Congrats to the Cowboys!

Kolodzik of Princeton and Ashnault of Rutgers in an all Jersey battle. This is part IV in a series, Kolodzik winning 2 of the last 3. Ashnault working tough on top, gets a stall call but racks up over a minute of riding time in the process. The strategy pays off as Ashnault gets a tilt on the edge. Just 2 swipes. The Rutgers coaches challenge the call and we'll go to review. Challenge denied. Then Kolo escapes on the restart so we go to the third period 3-1 Ash. And another takedown for Ashnault, that should seal the deal. And it does! Ashnault wins round 4 when it mattered most. He will be Rutgers first 3X All-American in school history!

UVA's George DiCam trying to make it 2 for 2 in the quarters for the Cavaliers. He gets a quick TD over Minnesota's Tommy Thorn. DiCam holding on to a 4-1 lead. A win would be huge, as DiCam has been to the round of 12 three times in the past. This would guarantee his first All-American honor. DiCam does it! He breaks through, gets over the hump, and murders that monkey on his back. Big round of applause for the Virginia senior.

Former teammates, Kevin Jack of NC State and Bryce Meredith, once of NC State, now of Wyoming, tied in the first. Both are approximately 7 feet tall as well. Meredith now with a 2-1 lead in the second. Crazy scramble with both guys looking for back points, but the net result is just a 2 reversal for Jack. Back and forth action, and Meredith gets 2, he's leading 6-3 now. Meredith holds on for the victory! This Cowboy knows how to wrestle when the lights are on! He makes back to back semifinals with another big upset, this time of the no. 2 seed, Jack.

141 has scads of contenders this year and the bracket proves that out. Into the semis go the numbers 1, 5, 6 and 10 seed.

FULL RESULTS
141 Dean Heil (Oklahoma St.) DEC Jaydin Eierman (Missouri), 6-5
141 Anthony Ashnault (Rutgers) DEC Matthew Kolodzik (Princeton), 6-2
141 George Dicamillo (Virginia) DEC Thomas Thorn (Minnesota), 5-2
141 Bryce Meredith (Wyoming) DEC Kevin Jack (North Carolina St.), 6-5

149

This weight class has been kind of out of control this year. We've got an unseeded and a 15th seeded wrestler in the quarters.

PSU's no. 1 Retherford already getting down to business, leading unranked Kocer of SD State 4-1. Zain's Pain Train is rolling along as usual, it's 12-2 and Kocer is fighting off his back. Kocer miraculously avoids a pin. He gets teched 19-2 instead. Retherford advances to the semis to the surprise of no one.

No. 15 seed Kenny Theobold of Rutgers slayed the biggest dragon so far in this tournament, beating no. 2 Collica of OK State last round. He's got no. 7 seed Max Thomsen of Northern Iowa. Thomsen trying to pumpkinize Theobold (that's a Cinderella reference), leading 2-0 with 2 minutes of riding time as we start the third. Theobold runs out of time and UNI gets their no. 7 Max Thomsen into the semis!

Zero to Zero is the score to start the second for Mizzou's Mayes and VTech's Chishko. It was close but Mayes' victory was never much in doubt. He wins 4-2 and the local Missouri fans show their appreciation for their 3X All-American senior.

Familiar Big Ten foes, Sorensen of Iowa and Micah Jordan of Ohio State facing off again. Sorensen has a 2-0 lead in the second. Sorensen blanks Micah 3-0. The Iowa fans are pumped for their 3X All-American.

Advancing to the semis are the numbers 1, 3, 5 & 7 seeds.

FULL RESULTS
149 Zain Retherford (Penn St.) TF Alex Kocer (South Dakota St.), 19-2 5:14
149 Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) DEC Micah Jordan (Ohio St.), 3-0
149 Lavion Mayes (Missouri) DEC Solomon Chishko (Virginia Tech), 4-2
149 Max Thomsen (Uni) DEC Kenny Theobald (Rutgers), 5-1

157

Some funs ones coming up at 157. This bracket (besides Nolf), is very hard to predict.

Iowa's no. 2 Kemerer has Cornell's wildcard, no. 7 seed Palacio. Palacio placed 4th last year but wrestled a mere 11 matches coming into the NCAAs. ITS PALACIO! WITH SOME KIND OF PETERSON ROLL! HE PINS KEMERER! The Hawkeye fans are stunned! Palacio advances, Kemerer into the bloodround!

Unseeded BJ Clagon of Rider is on a great run, unfortunately he has to wrestle Jason Nolf of PSU, who steals souls for fun and has done nothing but rampage all year long. Nolf pins! Directly after Palacio's pin! (I'm typing out of order for anyone reading this after the fact). Not quite as unexpected as Palacio's victory but the PSU fans cheer loudly anyway. Nittany Lions go 2 for 2 with their quarterfinalists so far.

Tyler Berger of Nebraska and Joseph Smith of OK State in a tight battle of 4 and 5 seeds. They'll start the second tied 0-0. It's 1-1, two escapes traded. Now we're in sudden victory. Free wrestling! But not for long! Tyler Berger with a quick takedown! Another crushing blow for the Cowboys. The Huskers have an AA and semifinalist!

No. 3 Joey Lavallee of Missouri trying to end the string of upsets that unseeded Paul Fox of Stanford is on. Lavallee in control from start to finish. He'll win and advance as the Tigers send back to back wrestlers to the semifinals with a 6-2 victory. Nicely done.

The semis at 157 will feature the 1, 3, 4 and 7 seeds. Expect some fireworks from this crew.

FULL RESULTS
157 Jason Nolf (Penn St.) F Bryant Clagon (Rider), 4:07
157 Tyler Berger (Nebraska) DEC Joseph Smith (Oklahoma St.), 3-1 SV
157 Joey Lavallee (Missouri) DEC Paul Fox (Stanford), 6-2
157 Dylan Palacio (Cornell) F Michael Kemerer (Iowa), 3:28

165

We're astonishingly already at the midway point of the quarters. We've got nothing but chalk here at 165 except for OK State's Rogers, the no. 9 seed, who pinned no. 8 Dylan Cottrell of WVU in the round of 16.

Two time champ Isaiah Martinez is on his quest for #3 against Rogers. One takedown by IMar and an escape by Rogers, and we have a close one going into the 2nd. But IMar changes that with a suck back for 4 back points and now jumps out to a 6-1 lead. A late charge by Rogers, he gets a takedown, no backpoints though. IMar will survive. He wins 10-5. The quest for 3 is still on track.

No. 2 seed Logan Massa of Michigan, who has only lost to IMar this year, has no. 7 seed, freshman Anthony Valencia of AZ State. Massa with a TD for an early 2-0 lead. Massa extends his lead to 5-0. Valencia is incredibly talented but Massa is showing why it would have been a very bad idea to pick against him in this match. And Massa puts Valencia away. Boy I really feel sorry for anyone who predicted a loss for Massa here. That hypothetical person would feel incredibly foolish right now.

Mizzou's Lewis takes PSU's Joseph down early. Lots of Mizzou and PSU fans in attendance so this match could get loud. It's back and forth, now 4-2 Lewis in the lead. Lewis also has over a minute of RT. Take down by Cenzo! He gets riding time to under a minute than releases Lewis. It's 5-4, RT not a factor! Cenzo back in on a shot! Lewis defends. They go out of bounds, no change. 30 seconds left. Cenzo with a big lift and takedown with seconds left! Cenzo wins! Insert insane cheering .gif here! PSU gets their 3rd semifinalist in a row!

Wisconsin's Isaac Jordan gets 2 take downs in the first and leads Riders Chad Walsh 4-1. Workmanlike victory for EyeJoe. He advances 7-3.

So things got a little bit nuts at the end but we still have nothing but chalk in the semis. The top 4 seeds all advance.

FULL RESULTS
165 Isaiah Martinez (Illinois) DEC Chandler Rogers (Oklahoma St.), 10-5
165 Isaac Jordan (Wisconsin) DEC Chad Walsh (Rider), 7-3
165 Vincenzo Joseph (Penn St.) DEC Daniel Lewis (Missouri), 6-5
165 Logan Massa (Michigan) MD Anthony Valencia (Arizona St.), 9-0

174

The top four seeds all survived the round of 16, but a 9, 10 and 11 all snuck in as well. This weight should be another fun one.

Sun Devil superfrosh Zahid Valencia is the no 1 seed and he gets no. 9 Myles Amine of Michigan. Valencia with a 4-1 lead. He'll be looking to get revenge for his older brother, who was beaten by a Wolverine in his quarterfinal bout. I should be paying more attention to this one, as its 10-6 in favor of Valencia and I'm not sure how most of those points scored. Zahid is lightening quick, he gets another takedown, it's 13-6. Amine gets 2 more to try and make it interesting, but it ends 14-8. Arizona State with an All-American!

Junior World Freestyle champ Mark Hall of PSU already has a takedown on the no. 4 seed Zach Epperly of VA Tech. Hall races out to a big 9-0 lead, but Epperly finally gets on the board to cut it to 9-2 with a takedown. It ends 10-2, and Mark Hall goes through to the next round, the outcome never in any doubt.

I hadn't even started writing this sentence when Cornell's Brian Realbuto pinned Illinois' Zac Brunson! Looked like a near side cradle maybe? Cornell with more bonus points and another semifinalist. The second of three seniors looking to make it to the top of the podium. Some dude named Gabe Dean wrestles in the next weight up.

In our last but certainly not least 174 1/4 match, Big Ten grapplers Bo Jordan of Ohio State and Alex Meyer of Iowa face off. Meyer, the no. 11 seed, gets a 2 point lead on the favorite, no. 3 seed BoJo. Now a reversal by BoJo, but Meyer escapes before Jordan can work riding time down. The RT clock has 1:06 in favor of the Hawkeye. Huge TD by Jordan! He's up 4-3 and gets RT down under a minute. BoJo riding out Meyer in a dicey crab ride, but he gets it done. Ohio State advances another to the semis!

Hall is the only upset of the quarters, but it was just barely an upset and that's just going by seed. 1, 2, 3 & 5 all advance.

FULL RESULTS

174 Zahid Valencia (Arizona St.) DEC Myles Amine (Michigan), 14-8
174 Mark Hall (Penn St.) MD Zach Epperly (Virginia Tech), 10-2
174 Bo Jordan (Ohio St.) DEC Alex Meyer (Iowa), 4-3
174 Brian Realbuto (Cornell) F Zach Brunson (Illinois), 1:11

184

A couple superstars about to take the mat. No. 2 Bo Nickal for PSU and no. 1 Gabe Dean of Cornell on opposite sides of the quarters.

Gabe Dean has no. 8 Jack Dechow of Old Dominion. These two met in the third place bout three years ago as freshman, Dean getting the victory then. Dean and Dechow in a battle of wills. A TD for Dean and reversal for Dechow (I can't recall the last time Dean gave up offensive points) and offsetting escapes. It's 3-3 in the third, riding time not a factor. No score in sudden victory, now we're in tie breakers! Dean escapes in the first TB segment. Dechow is unable to get out in the next! But the ODU coaches want a stall call for Dean hanging on an ankle for more than 5 seconds. They don't get it. Dean scrapes by! The toughest match of the season for the 2X champ. Cornell has 3 semifinalists.

Nickal has no. 7 seed and last year's finalist, TJ Dudley of Nebraska. Nickal with a couple takedowns already. Bo always brings the high intensity offense. Now near side cradle and he heaves Dudley over. He gets the pin! Simultaneous eruptions for the PSU and Iowa fans! Both matches end in dramatic fashion!

Nolan Boyd trying to get OK State back on track. He takes down no. 12 Drew Foster of UNI and gets 4 back points on a tilt. While the matches around them go bananas, Boyd works his lead up to 10-4. It'll end 11-7, and Okie State finally gets another win.

Iowa's Brooks and Illinois' Parker meet in yet another battle of Big Ten opponents. Parker upset the 2016 174 pound National Champ, Myles Martin of Ohio State, last round. Parker trying to keep his upset streak going, he's up 2-1 and riding tough on top, with over 1:30 of RT clock. Brooks going upper body, and throws Parker down and gets the pin! We've got pandemonium again in the Scottrade Center!

Well that was exhausting. The top 4 seeds advance, and we've still got two more weights to go.

FULL RESULTS
184 Gabriel Dean (Cornell) DEC Jack Dechow (Old Dominion), 4-3 TB2
184 Nolan Boyd (Oklahoma St.) DEC Drew Foster (Uni), 11-7
184 Samuel Brooks (Iowa) F Emory Parker (Illinois), 6:50
184 Bo Nickal (Penn St.) F Timothy Dudley (Nebraska), 4:37

197

Mostly chalk here. ODU's Kevin Beazly is the only non-top 8 seed, checking in at no. 10.

Rio Olympics bronze medalist J'Den Cox of Mizzou will face Rider's third quarterfinalist, Ryan Wolfe, the no. 8 seed. Cox with a TD in shortime and will start the 2nd period with a 2-0 lead. Cox showing off his world class agility with another nifty takedown. He's also got a decent top game. It's 6-0, make that 8-0, after 2 more back points. Everybody is winning at once now as Cox punches his ticket for the semis.

If team trophy hopes are still alive for either Ohio State or Oklahoma State (PSU is on a pretty insurmountable roll), this match between Moore and Weigel could make a big difference for both teams. The Buckeye freshman, Moore, already has a 2-1 lead on the Cowboy, Weigel. Moore working on a 9-4 lead. Make that 11-4 as Moore picks up a leg and reverses Weigel. Moore wins it and the Buckeye fans let him hear it.

Golden Gopher no. 1 seed Brett Pfarr has Beazley stretched out after an early takedown. Pfarr already has over a minute of RT. Pfarr goose eggs Wolfe, 6-0, and advances to the semis.

Hokie Jared Haught trying to cool off the red hot Matt McCutcheon and the Nittany Lions. Haught up to a 6-3 lead mid way through the match. McCutcheon could not solve Haught's defense. Virginia tech gets a semifinalist and are feelin' Haught, Haught, Haught (I tried to stop myself from that one but did not have the willpower).

Folks, our 197 semifinalists are Pfarr, Moore, Haught and Cox. Thank you that is all.

FULL RESULTS
197 J`den Cox (Missouri) MD Ryan Wolfe (Rider), 10-1
197 Jared Haught (Virginia Tech) DEC Matt Mccutcheon (Penn St.), 7-3
197 Kollin Moore (Ohio St.) MD Preston Weigel (Oklahoma St.), 13-5
197 Brett Pfarr (Minnesota) DEC Kevin Beazley (Old Dominion), 6-0

285

Northwestern's Conan Jennings is the only unseeded wrestler left in the championship bracket. He is joined by the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, & 8 seeded heavies.

It's been 30 seconds and Snyder only has 1 takedown on no. 8 Kroells of Minnesota. OK Snyder has 3 more now and the 1st period ends with the Buckeye leading 8-3. Kroells riding Snyder tough. It's 13-6 in with a minute left in the third, though, so a rideout to end the match would be nothing but a moral victory. Snyder does spend the rest of the match on bottom but wins and advances. He waves off a mat side interview and winces as he heads to the locker room. Hopefully it's nothing serious, all joking aside, Snyder is a unique talent nobody wants to see him less than 100%.

Nick Nevills will try to be 7th semifinalist (I think I counted right) for the Lions (nope, trying to be the 6th, just counted while proofreading). He'll have to go through the dangerous Jacob Kasper of Duke, a former 184 pounder who has the scrambling skills of a lighter weight that can give other 285 pounders fits. Kasper gets a takedown in short time after an escape, so he takes a 3-0 lead into the 3rd period and starts in the top position. Nevills escapes to cut it to 3-1. RT not a factor. Kasper holds seed and advances to the semis! Incredible job by Kasper and a great win for the Duke University program.

Jennings has the no. 3 seed, Ty Walz of VA Tech. Walz is up 4-1 in the second with over a minute of RT. Walz extends his lead to 9-3. They're in neutral with about a minute left in the match. Now 11-3 with RT locked up. 15-4 major victory is how it will end for Walz. Hokies get their second semifinalist!

Connor Medbery of Wisconsin is the no. 2 seed. He's in a close match with AZ State's Tanner Hall. It's 2-1 with Medbery on top as RT creeps up over a minute. Hall doesn't makes it easy for him, but Medbery advances by the score of 5-3. Badgers get their second semifinalist!

It's a 1, 2, 3, 4 semifinal round for the heavies.

FULL RESULTS
285 Kyle Snyder (Ohio St.) DEC Michael Kroells (Minnesota), 13-7
285 Jacob Kasper (Duke) DEC Nick Nevills (Penn St.), 3-1
285 Ty Walz (Virginia Tech) MD Conan Jennings (Northwestern), 15-4
285 Connor Medbery (Wisconsin) DEC Tanner Hall (Arizona St.), 5-3

That will do it for an electric quarterfinal round. The consolations have taken over all 8 mats and will continue for a bit. We'll try and clean up our typos and see if we catch any noteworthy wrestleback results.

197: Northern Illinois is having a nice tournament, as Shawn Scott beats CSUB's Matt Williams, and is now one match away from the medal stand.

197: Frank Mattiace of Penn false starts one too many times, and gives up a penalty point in sudden victory, allowing Cash Wilcke of Iowa to advance on the costly season ending error.

285: Maryland fans have a reason to tune in tonight, as Youssif Hemida edges out Jere Heino of Campbell.

285: Denzel Dejournette will give App State a chance at an All-American after he beat Oklahoma's Ross Larson 2-0 to make it to the round of 12.

And that finally does it. I hope everyone enjoyed this scintillating third session. I'll try to type more accurately in tonight's sesh, in which we will see the vaunted semifinals, and of course, the infamous BLOODROUND.

See you tonight wrestling fans!
