125: Thomas Gilman, Iowa DEC Tim Lambert, NEB, 4-0

1st Period: Gilman from Nebraska, facing Nebraska today, clamps onto a front headlock before a stalemate. Gilman peaking into prime tan tones for the post season. Gilman clamps on Lambert's chin again, being very heavy on the head, snaps to a head inside single for a takedown. 2-0, Gilman. The ref counts off to 4 seconds with Gilman on the leg but then he climbs up. Out of bounds and back to center. Spiral ride, out of bounds again. 1 minute left in 1st period. Lambert Granby's out of bounds but Gilman maintains control. Gilman with 1 minute RT now, out of bounds again. Lambert active on bottom but Gilman persistant to follow. Lambert to his feet, NEARLY out but Gilman pushes carries him out of bounds. 25 secs left. Period ends 2-0, Gilman with 1:37 RT.

2nd Period: Gilman starts on bottom. Stand up foiled. Lambert getting good wrist control and working to hook an ankle. Crab ride now, but Lambert with wrist. Gilman very active on bottom, Lambert tenacious on top. 1 minute left. Gilman stands up quickly, Lambert hugs him back to the ground. Gilman up and turns but Lambert drops to a leg and runs him out of bounds. 32 seconds left. Gilman up, turns and out. Gilman clamps onto a front headlock. RT is erased. Period ends 3-0, Gilman.

3rd Period: Lambert chooses top. Interesting strategy, given that he was never close to turning Gilman. Gilman escapes in 8 seconds this time. 4-0 Gilman. GIlman in on a single, buried under hips. Gilman sucks it up but Lambert whizzers him out of bounds. Back to center. 1 minute remains. Lambert attacking. Very active match from both wrestlers. Gilman heavy on the head to spend time and drops to an ankle. Not close to a takedown. Gilman will win it 4-0.

133: Nathan Tomasello, Ohio St. DEC Cory Clark, Iowa, 5-4

1st Period: Of Ohio State's finals, this looks to be one of the toss ups as NATO won narrowly in both the quarter and semifinals. NATO 18-0 on the year, Clark is 15-2. Clark's left shoulder is well wrapped. A lot of physical hand fighting early--will probably continue most of the match. NATO shoots head inside, but Clark squares up to him to shake it off. Tomasello in again and Clark jumps over the back. No takedown. 1 minute remains. Heavy clubbing hands from NATO. Crowd calls for a NATO takedown off a loose go-behind on the edge, but the ref correctly avoided the temptation. First period ends scoreless.

2nd Period: Clark starts on bottom, gets to his feet quickly, Tomasello runs him out of bounds. Up again and out 15 seocnds in. Tomasello immediately in on an attack and the ref stops the match in a scramble--prematurely in my mind. In any case, no points. Blood time for Tomasello. Back in action with 1:30 left in the period. Cory Clark in on a shot in the edge, Tomasello defends with a whizzer. Nothing. More neutral and the period ends 1-0, Clark.

3rd Period: Tomasello on bottom. Up quickly. Clark drops to an ankle and runs him out of bounds. Tomasello working for wrist control, gets to his feet. Turns free but the ref calls them out of bounds with no escape. Clark on the ankle again and gets a 5 count for the stall warning. Crab ride and Clark locks hands! 1 point for NATO as he returns to bottom. Tomasello escapes to a huge 2-1 lead. In on a high crotch and Clark defending frantically!. Both guys working very hard in this position! Tomasello grabs an ankle briefly but gets a takedown! Clark escapes quickly and is in on his own shot and a TAKEDOWN to tie it up with 15 seconds left! TOMASELLO TURNS IN WITH 1 SECOND LEFT TO WIN THE MATCH AND BIG TEN TOURNAMENT!

Tomasello now a 3x Big Ten Champion as a junior, and will be an undisputed, undefeated #1 seed at the NCAA tournament.

141: Anthony Ashnault, RUT MDEC Javier Gasca, MSU, 15-2

1st Period: Javier Gasca enters this final as one of the weekends Cinderella's, having knocked off 2nd and 3rd seeds Jimmy Gulibon and Tommy Thorn. We are under way, Gasca trying to keep space, Ashnault locks onto a Russian tie. Ashnault drops to a single, snaps up the leg and finishes to a 2-0 lead. Gasca works for a Peterson but is thwarted and tilted for 4 back points. Ouch. 6-0 Ashnault. Gasca very leery of giving up wrist control now. Gasca working for control and gets flattened on the next restart. 45 seconds left and AA is filling caverns with riding time. 2:11 of it before Gasca escapes with 10 seconds left. Period ends 6-1, Ashnault.

2nd Period: Gasca takes neutral. Shnaulty working for another Russian but Gasca wants none of it. 30 seconds left. Period ends with no scoring. Still 6-1, Ashnault.

3rd Period: Neutral again. Why not? Ashnault spins behind a Gasca shot for a takedown. Cradles him up for another 4 count and 12-1 lead! Gasca rolls to an escape. 12-2. 40 seconds remain. 30. Gasca with a FHL, stalemate. 20 secs remain. Ashnault sweep single, finishes for a 14-2 lead. Will win 15-2 after RT is tacked on. 2x Big Ten Champ.

149: Zain Retherford, PSU TECH Micah Jordan, OSU, 16-1

1st Period: In a sense, this is an important match for the team race, but Jordan's chances of victory seem slim, with Retherford winning this match via tech fall in the dual meet. Jordan did manage to score a couple takedowns in that match, but Retherford turned him multiple times for 4-counts. The next 7 minutes will tell if Jordan has made any adjustments. He begins this match after securing the best win of his career in his semifinal against Brandon Sorenson. Ohio state leads Penn State 127.5 to 116.5 going into this head-to-head bout between the two teams. Getting started now to an OH-IO cheer in the crowds...

Micah's right lead leg is well-wrapped and padded. Micah slapping the mead and dropping to his 3-point mongoose stance. Zain menacing with a head tap. The ref warns them for some of the hands to the face. Micah shot, Zain counter, nothing serious. No points. Micah Russian, Zain clears it. Back to center. Zain shot, head inside, Micah scurries, Zain gets behind and on top for 2 points. Zain riding cross body with an ankle hooked. Zain creeps to 1 minute RT. Stall warning on Jordan. Period is going to end 2-0, Zain, and the Lion takes 1:22 RT into the second period.

2nd Period: Jordan opts for neutral start. Retherford in on another single and muscles an arm across Jordan's hips to knock him down for another takedown. Zain working for a tilt but Micah ain't going easy, clears his arm. Zain with typical brutality on top. Micah gets another stall call and gives up a point this time. 5-0.

3rd Period: Zain takes bottom and escapes in about 5 seconds. Zain in on another shot, finishes into a leg lace. 8-0 lead. Zain looking for a bow and arrow and gets it for back points. 4 of them. 12-0 before RT. Another stall call on Micah. 13-0. Zain opts neutral for a chance at a takedown to finish the tech. Double leg Zain, finishes with 4 seconds left for the tech fall. Very impressive win for Zain.

157: Jason Nolf, PSU DEC Michael Kemerer, Iowa, 8-2

1st Period: Getting started now. Nolf shot, Kemerer re-shot. Nolf front headlock. Ref returns them to feet. 1 minute in, scoreless. Kemerer shot, lifts Nolf over his back. Kemerer pulls him back down and Nolf is cranking on his arm. Back on their feet, no points. 1 minute left. Nolf shot. Kemerer reshot. Nothing. Nolf throwby to single, switches double and finishes with 20 seconds left. Period ends 2-0, Nolf.

2nd Period: Kemerer on bottom. Up to his feet, Nolf brings him back down and is working to throw in a leg. Gets it in and riding cross body. Figure 4ing the leg now. Ref restarts them due to lack of option. Nolf says optional start. 2-1, Nolf. Nolf has 1:32 RT. Nolf scores off a slide by scramble with 1 second left to take a 4-1 lead into the 3rd period! Brands will challenge, but I'm betting it stays on the board. And it will stay, indeed.

3rd Period: Nolf takes bottom. Nolf up and out after 10 seconds but Kemerer's immediate double leg keeps control. Nolf out again in time to preserve 1:05 RT. Nolf up 5-1, plus RT. Nolf double leg. pulls it in and finishes to a 7-1 lead. Kicks him to go for the major decision. 7-2, plus RT. 20 seconds left and Nolf is in on a single leg, Kemerer looks to turn it into his own points. Ref calls potentially dangerous.. Nolf in on a single late--the ref's don't award the takedown. Nolf will win 8-2. I wouldn't have been surprised to see Cael challenge the non-TD, but he lets it lie at a decision.

The BoJo/Mark Hall final at 174 looming pretty large right now.

165: Isaiah Martinez, ILL DEC Logan Massa, MICH, 10-4

1st Period: Under way! IMar threatening to snatch some ankles here. Menacing man, that one. Imar throwby attempt, doesn't get it but transitions to run Massa over right to his back for a NEAR pin. Just gets 4 back points though. Out of bounds and back to center, 6-0 IMar. Good luck coming back from that one, Massa. Escape Massa, 6-1. 40 seconds remain. Period ends 6-1.

2nd Period: Massa takes down. Massa up, clears wrists, and out. 6-2, IMAR. Imar headgear issue causes ref to restart them. Both guys threatening with some shots from distance, then IMAR starts stuffing Massa's head down. Massa shots but can't touch a leg under Imar's sprawl. Back to feet. 15 seconds left. That'll do it. 6-2.

3rd Period: IMar down. Massa looking at a banana split position as Imar is up to his feet. Massa riding well but he's going to need to score. He kicks Imar after building up 45 seconds of RT. Massa shoots and scores! 7-4, IMAR. Massa kicks him to an 8-4 deficit. Imar attacking now. 15 seconds left. IMar throws Massa to his back to close it out 10-4.

Meanwhile, Vincenzo's upset over Zeke Jordan puts even more spotlight on the upcoming 174 showdown...

174: Bo Jordan, Ohio St. DEC Mark Hall, PSU, 6-4 SV1

1st Period: Ohio state leads by 0.5 points going into this showdown. While Ohio State has 3 finalists remaining after this match, they will only be favored in one of those bouts. This, then, could determine the team victor.

Hall working for his underhooks. Bo the Bull squaring him away, not letting him dig in. Mark Hall in on shot and finishes for a takedown. 1 minute in. Bo back to his feet, but Hall keeps a single and rides Bo back to the mat. Bo looking flat on the mat and frustrated. Gets to his feet, escapes after 1:11 RT. 40 seconds remain. Hall in on another single leg, Bo chasing around, Hall hips in right at the buzzer to take a 4-1 lead into the 2nd period. The takedown will be challenged. Takedown overturned! So it will just be 2-1, Hall, going into the 2nd period.

2nd Period: Bo takes bottom. Explodes out and turns in for a very quick escape. Bo in on single leg, Hall well-sprawled, scrambling. Takedown, Hall, 4-2. Bo gets reversal. Bo on top, now, looking to erase RT. They return to center. RT is now under a minute, Bo working power half. Period ends tied, RT not a factor.
3rd Period: Hall chooses neutral. Shot Bo, not deep though. Back to feet. Hall swims to single, Bo POWERS himself to freedom in a way that defies logic. 30 seconds remain. Tie match. Hall backing out a bit--both of them appear to be tired. Regulation ends tied up.

SV1: BO IN ON A SINGLE LEG, DRIVES HIM OUT AND GETS A TAKEDOWN TO WIN THE MATCH! That likely wraps up the Big Ten Title for the BUCKEYES!

184: Sam Brooks, Iowa, MDEC Myles Martin, Ohio St., 12-2

1st Period: We are under way, here! Brooks clubbing with his hands early, now working to control a wrist while MyMart is showing his hand in Brooks' face. A lot of upper body work here and BROOKS FOOT SWEEPS MARTIN TO HIS BACK! 6-0 lead for Brooks! Restart with a minute left. Martin to his feet, Brooks returns him. Martin up again. Spiral ride Brooks. Martin now out. 6-1. Brooks has 1:09 RT. Period will end that way.

2nd Period: Brooks on bottom. Up and out just late enough to have less than a minute RT remaining. Shot Martin, Brooks bullies him into a cradle he can't fully lock up, but does get around the side for a takedown. Brooks looking VERY physical in this match! 9-1, Brooks, and he will take over 2 minutes RT into the 3rd period.

3rd Period: Martin to his feet, Brooks trips him back down. Martin continues to work on bottom. Finally out after 30 seconds. Brooks effectively up 8 points right now. Shot Martin, almost gets himself shoved to his own back, though. Brooks has a significant strength advantage here. Shot from distance for MyMart. Nothing. 3o seconds left. Brooks throw by to a single, looks to drag Myles back in, finishes for an 11-2 lead. Match will end 12-2 after RT. Statement win from Sam Brooks! He apparently was not impressed by Martin's semifinal win.

197: Kollin Moore, Ohio St DEC Brett Pfarr, MINN, 15-11

1st Period: Under way here, early takedown for Kollin Moore! Pfarr has beaten Moore twice this year. Pfarr out. Pfarr takedown on edge with a Merkle, 3-2 lead for Pfarr. Moore rolls out. These boys are dancin', and it's pretty. Physical and active, both of 'em. 3-3 tie. Shot Moore, Pfarr dives to ankle, Moore finishes, Pfarr escapes quickly. 5-4 Moore. Moore with another shot, finds himself buried under Pfarr's hips, works his way up... scrambling, and another takedown for Moore!!!! Pfarr on his back!!!! That will be 4 back points for Moore! 11-4! Kollin has apparently made some adjustments since the time Pfarr massacred him at CKLV. Period is over.

2nd Period: Moore on bottom. Optional start for Pfarr, 12-4 Moore. Moore in on another single leg and we have ourselves another scramble, this time Pfarr comes out on top. 12-6. Moore escapes quickly, 13-6. 40 seconds remain. Shot Pfarr and TAKEDOWN on the edge! This is a fire fight! 13-8, Moore to end the period.

3rd Period: Pfarr starts bottom and escapes quickly, 13-9 lead for Moore. Shot Pfarr, but Moore keeps distance. Moore seems to be killing time and not attacking at this point. 40 seconds remain. Stalling warning on Moore, shuck for Moore to extend his lead to 15-9. Pfarr escapes, 15-10. Now 15-11, but I'm not sure where that point came from. Maybe stalling again?

In any case, Kollin Moore locks up another Big Ten Team Title for the Buckeyes as a freshman who is looking very hot heading into NCAAs!

285: Kyle Snyder, Ohio St. vs. Connor Medbery, WISC

1st Period: We are underway with the Champ! Snyder shot but Medbery is showing pretty heavy hands. Now Medbery shot, Snyder comes behind but can't get Medbery all the way to the mat. Neutral. Single leg and powerful lift/finish for KySny. Medbery out after 14 seconds. Snyder with an off-balance far ankle pick that nearly resulted in Medbery points... somehow the Champ weaseled out of it, though, and snuck out the back for a takedown in the last 5 seconds. 4-1 to end the period.

2nd Period: Snyder takes neutral. Snyder shoots, stuffed by hips, out of bounds. 54 seconds left. Shot Medbery but doesn't touch a leg. Period will end 4-1, Snyder.

3rd Period: Medbery takes bottom. Optional start from Snyder, 4-2 now. RT not a factor. Snyder bull rushes Medbery out of bounds. Stalling point gives Snyder a 5-2 lead now. Snyder shoots Medbery out of bounds. 43 seconds remain. Shot Medbery, Snyder goes behind for a takedown. 7-3 after an escape. Shot Snyder and MEDBERY gets a (questionable) flash takedown! Snyder escapes at the buzzer to end the match 8-5.

That will wrap this one up for the Champion Buckeyes and the rest of the Big Ten! See you in St. Louis!
