Mark Hall has been a common topic of discussion since his arrival on the Penn State campus. The idea of the freshman's potential usage for the 2016-17 season has been bolstered by the solid, but not spectacular, performance of PSU's 174 pounders, Geno Morelli and Shakur Rasheed. Hall winning a loaded Scuffle bracket on Jan. 2 certainly didn't suppress the flames either.

Recently, Hall won a wrestle off over current Nittany Lions starter Geno Morelli. A ranking match at this point in the year points to, if nothing else, the fact that wrestling Hall is a possibility being considered by the Penn State coaching staff.

Hall is on the trip with the second-ranked PSU team as it heads to Iowa for its dual against the No. 4 Hawkeyes on Friday, January 20.

Hall is pictured wearing a red hat.

Each time the question has been asked, Penn State coach Cael Sanderson and Hall himself have openly stated that the plan is for the freshman to remain a redshirt this season.

Redshirts traveling and even weighing in is not uncommon. In Iowa's loss to top-ranked Oklahoma State last week, Hawkeyes freshman Alex Marinelli traveled with the team to Stillwater, OK. Sources close to the program believe Hall will be weighing in Friday night before the dual against Iowa. That alone doesn't mean that Hall will be running through the tunnel at Carver-Hawkeye, however. A year ago, Ohio State's Myles Martin weighed in but did not compete against Missouri, preserving his redshirt.

The speculation around Hall will likely continue until the shirt is pulled or PSU finalizes its entries into the Big Ten tournament. Either decision that Penn State makes is an absolute game changer.
