According to Penn State Head Coach Cael Sanderson, Redshirt Sophomore Jered Cortez will likely miss the remainder of the season due to an injury.

On the Penn State Coaches Show, Sanderson told host Jeff Byers

"He's probably not going to be back this season," Sanderson said. "He was getting back to full speed-ish and we were going to test him out and see how it went and it didn't go too well."

The Illinois-native was a blue chip recruit who transferred from Illinois last year.  He showed promise during his redshirt year, beating teammate and All American Jordan Conaway.  His results this year have not lived up to expectations.  Injury concerns likely played a role in Cortez's lack of contribution.

Cortez wrestled just eight matches this season.  His last bout was a 12-4 loss at the hands of Lehigh's 9th ranked Scotty Parker.  His only other loss came to 13th ranked Kevin Devoy of Lehigh.

George Carpenter has been filling the spot for Penn State, but Coach Sanderson also mentioned that Freshman Triston Law was cutting down to 133 as well.

Penn State will head to Iowa for a dual against the Hawkeyes on Friday at 8PM in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
